(5) Student Experience
We chose OES because we were able to preview sample courses online before enrolling. The course layout was very user-friendly, and the information provided was clear and comprehensive, including details about evaluations and course requirements. OES advisors also had experience working with athletes entering the NCAA system. As a busy athlete, online education was an ideal fit for our daughter. Whether she was competing across Canada or the United States, she only needed her laptop to stay on track with her studies. The teachers were approachable and supportive, adding an important human touch to the online learning experience. As a Quebec student, OES provided an excellent alternative to cégep, allowing our daughter to complete her Grade 12 requirements on a flexible timeline while balancing her athletic commitments.
Why Ontario eSecondary School?
We ultimately chose OES because of its flexibility and the consistently prompt, friendly support we received from staff throughout the process. The course options were diverse and engaging, and the materials, such as videos, novels, and projects, kept learning interesting.
Expectations vs. Reality
It exceeded our expectations in terms of the diversity of assignments and projects. Despite being an online program, the teachers created engaging and interesting learning activities that kept students involved. The teachers were also very flexible when it came to scheduling meetings and evaluations.
Your Advice
When considering OES, it is important to understand how independent and self-motivated a student needs to be to succeed in an online learning environment. While students receive excellent support from teachers and staff, success ultimately depends on the student's ability to manage their time, stay organized, and keep up with their coursework.

The learning is done independently, using the teachers' resources. With that being said, teachers provide excellent feedback on assignments and projects. Each assignment includes a comprehensive rubric that clearly outlines expectations and grading criteria, helping students understand how to be successful.
