(4.5) Overall Experience
My experience at the Royal Ontario Academy was very helpful because I needed to complete Grade 12 courses for college admission in Canada. I took Grade 12 Biology and Math in 2024 because these courses were required for Practical Nursing programs. Since I studied high school in India, these courses were not part of my regular high school program, so ROA helped me meet the admission requirements. At the same time, I was also completing my other high school courses in India, so the flexibility of ROA was very helpful for me. Because the courses were online, I could manage my time and complete the work while still continuing my studies in India. What I liked best was that I could focus on the courses I needed and work toward improving my marks. The courses helped me understand the Canadian school system better and gave me more confidence for college. I think ROA is a good option for students who need specific courses for university or college admission. Overall, I feel ROA helped prepare me for my next step in college.
Looking Back
What stands out most from my time at ROA is that the school gave me a chance to complete the Grade 12 courses I needed for Practical Nursing admission while I was also studying in India. I remember working hard in Biology and Math because I knew these courses were important for my future. The online format was very useful because I could complete the courses from another country and balance them with my other school responsibilities. As an international student from India, it was helpful to study in a Canadian school setting before starting college.
Current Perspective
Now that I am a first-year college student in Canada, I see ROA as an important step in my academic journey. At the time, I was mainly focused on getting the required courses and marks for admission. Now I understand that the courses also helped me prepare for college learning. I especially see the value of taking Biology because it connects to my Practical Nursing studies. Math was also important because it helped me meet the program requirements and build confidence with academic work in Canada. One strength of ROA is that it offers flexible online courses. This was very helpful for me because I was able to complete my ROA courses while also doing my regular high school courses in India. This flexibility is a big benefit for international students.
Your Advice
My honest advice to someone considering ROA is to take the courses seriously and manage your time well. If you need certain Grade 12 courses for college or university admission, ROA can be a good option. I would especially recommend ROA to international students who need to complete specific Canadian Grade 12 courses while still studying in their home country. The online and flexible format makes it easier to balance school work and admission requirements. I wish someone had told me earlier that completing the right prerequisite courses can make a big difference when applying to college programs in Canada.
