(5) Student Experience

It is difficult to put into words how much St. Jude's and Scholars' Hall has meant to our family over the years. All three of our sons attended the school, and each of them benefited tremendously from the caring and supportive environment. Christopher attended from Senior Kindergarten through Grade 9. When he first started, he faced significant challenges, including very limited communication. With the patience, encouragement and unwavering support of his teachers and the school leadership, he made extraordinary progress over the years. By Grade 8, he was honoured as St. Jude's Valedictorian. This was an achievement we once could only dream of. Our middle son, Charles, attended from 2017 to 2023 and was honoured to be Scholars' Hall Grade 12 Valedictorian. Our oldest son, Marko, also attended Grade 8. Each of our children was known as an individual and was encouraged to reach his full potential academically, socially and personally. What we appreciated most was the genuine care shown by the teachers, staff and leadership. The sense of community is exceptional, and we always felt supported as parents. Even after our children moved on, Cheryl McKee and Fred Gore have continued to show sincere interest in their success and well-being. SJSH has had a lasting and profoundly positive impact on our family, and we will always be grateful for everything the school has done for our children.

Why St. Jude’s Scholars’ Hall?

We chose SJSH for Christopher after he had a very difficult experience in JK in the public school system. The school was highly recommended to us, and from our first visit, we felt it was a caring and supportive environment where Christopher would be understood and encouraged to reach his full potential. Choosing SJ/SH was one of the best decisions we made for our family.

Expectations vs. Reality

SJSH exceeded our expectations in every way. We were looking for a caring and supportive environment where our children would be known as individuals and encouraged to reach their full potential, and that is exactly what we found.

Your Advice

If you are looking for a school where your child will be truly known, supported and encouraged to reach their full potential, St. Jude's Scholars' Hall is an exceptional choice. The impact this school has had on our three sons and on our family as a whole has been life-changing.

(5) School Leadership

The leadership at St. Jude's Scholars' Hall is truly exceptional. Cheryl McKee and Fred Gore are deeply committed to the success and well-being of every student. They are approachable, compassionate, and always willing to listen and provide guidance when needed. They communicate openly with parents and handle concerns with professionalism and care. Their dedication and integrity create a warm, supportive and respectful school environment where students feel valued, and families feel like an important part of the community in every way. We trusted them completely.

(5) Teaching

The teaching at SJSH is outstanding. The teachers are knowledgeable, dedicated and truly care about each student's success. They communicate regularly with parents and provide thoughtful feedback to help every child grow. What impressed us most was how well the teachers adapted to the individual needs of our children. In Christopher's case, the school worked closely with us and maintained excellent communication so that we could support him together as a team. Their patience, understanding and commitment played a significant role in his progress. The same level of care and attention was given to our other two sons. Each of our children was appropriately challenged and supported, and all three received an excellent education and a strong foundation for future success. We always felt that our children were encouraged and inspired to do their best.

(5) Academics

The academic program at SJSH is rigorous, well-rounded and exceptionally strong. The school sets high expectations while providing the support each student needs to succeed. The teachers challenge students to think critically, work independently, and develop strong study habits and organizational skills. We believe the academic foundation our three sons received at SJSH prepared them extremely well for their future studies. Each of them left the school with confidence, discipline and the skills needed to succeed in high school and university. The school fosters a culture of academic excellence while also recognizing that every child learns differently. Students are encouraged to reach their full potential in a supportive environment where both achievement and personal growth are valued. This strong foundation has benefited our children throughout their academic and professional journeys.

(5) Extracurriculars

SJSH offers a wide range of extracurricular activities that help students develop confidence, teamwork and leadership skills. Our sons had many opportunities to participate in sports, clubs and special events throughout the years. These experiences helped them build friendships, discover new interests and become well-rounded individuals. The school does an excellent job of balancing strong academics with extracurricular opportunities that enrich the overall student experience.

(5) Students

The student body at SJSH is welcoming, respectful and inclusive. Students are encouraged to support one another and build meaningful friendships. Our sons always felt accepted and part of a close-knit community where kindness and respect were part of everyday life. The atmosphere is warm and positive, and older students serve as excellent role models for younger students. The school fosters strong values and creates an environment where students feel safe, confident and comfortable being themselves. Because the school community is relatively small, students and families get to know one another well. This creates a genuine sense of belonging and lasting friendships that continue long after graduation. Our children developed strong friendships and always looked forward to going to school. The sense of community is exceptional.

(5) School Life

School life at SJSH is warm, engaging and highly supportive. Our children genuinely enjoyed going to school each day and felt safe, valued and encouraged to participate in all aspects of school life. The school creates a strong sense of community through academics, extracurricular activities, special events and meaningful relationships with teachers and classmates. Students are encouraged to build confidence, develop friendships and take pride in their accomplishments. What stands out most is how well the school balances high expectations with a caring and nurturing environment. The positive atmosphere helped our three sons grow into well-rounded young men. The memories and friendships they made at SJ/SH will stay with them for life. As parents, we always felt that our children were happy, supported and excited to be part of such a special school community.

(5) Community

The community at SJSH is one of the school's greatest strengths. From the moment we joined the school, we felt welcomed and supported by the teachers, staff and other families. There is a genuine sense of connection and shared commitment to helping every child succeed. Parents are encouraged to be involved and are treated as valued partners in their children's education. Communication is open, respectful and consistent, which creates a strong relationship between home and school. Over the years, we developed lasting friendships with other families and always felt that we belonged to a caring and close-knit community. Even after our children moved on to their next stage of education, we have remained connected to the school and to the wonderful people who are part of it.

(5) School Location

SJSH is conveniently located in a safe and welcoming area that is easily accessible for families. The school grounds are well-maintained and provide a comfortable and secure environment for students. The location contributes to the warm, community-oriented feel of the school and creates a peaceful setting that is conducive to learning and personal growth. Huron Natural Area is nearby.

(5) Admissions

Our admissions experience at SJSH was very positive and not stressful at all. The school gave Christopher the opportunity to attend during March break so that both our family and the school could determine whether it was the right fit for him. This thoughtful approach gave us great confidence in the admissions process. Christopher was accepted after the trial, and it proved to be one of the best decisions we ever made. We were so happy with our experience that we later enrolled our other two sons as well.

(5) University placement and counselling

Although only our son Charles completed the full university counselling process at SJSH, the support he received was outstanding. Charles was still unsure about his future path during his final year of high school, and Cheryl McKee played an instrumental role in helping him explore his options. Cheryl was incredibly patient, supportive and generous with her time. She met with Charles on multiple occasions, answered his questions and helped him gain the confidence needed to make an informed decision about his future. As a result of this guidance, Charles applied to several programs and was accepted to every one of them, receiving scholarships as well. We are very grateful for the personalized support and thoughtful advice he received throughout the university application process and career goals.
