    Balanced
Equal emphasis is placed on a balance of priorities: intellectual, emotional, social and physical cultivation.
    Intellectual
The goal is to cultivate "academically strong, creative and critical thinkers, capable of exercising rationality, apprehending truth, and making aesthetic distinctions."

    Curriculum pace

    N/A

    Student-paced
The main curriculum pace is non-standardized and is HIGHLY responsive to the pacing of individual students, (via differentiated instruction, differentiated assessment, etc). In theory, some students outpace the default/normalized curriculum, while others spend periods "behind schedule" if they need the extra time.

    Academic culture

    N/A

    Supportive
A school with a “supportive” academic culture focuses more on process than short-term outcomes: academic performance is a welcomed side-benefit, but not the driving focus. This does not mean the school lacks standards, or has low expectations for its students: a school can have a supportive academic culture and still light the fire of ambition in its students. It does mean, however, the school provides a less intensive culture than schools with a “rigorous” academic classification, and is focused more simply on instilling a love of learning and life-long curiosity.

Who are you, as a school?

Who are you, as a school?

    TEAM SCHOOL

"Since 1981, TEAM School has offered an individualized academic programme for students who benefit from the additional support that can be provided in a small class setting. In the TEAM programme (up to 9 students), teachers utilize Direct Instruction strategies and programmes in core subject areas to build skill mastery. The TEAM Programme provides an excellent academic upgrading programme where fundamental skills are consolidated. The TEAM Preparatory (Prep) programme (up to 5 students) provides further support through a smaller class size and individualized programme. Students work toward skill acquisition with emphasis on the integration of personal skills and work habits for individual success and a greater level of independence. The academic programme is augmented by specialty classes in science, physical education, music, and the performing arts."

What does school_name do differently or uniquely well?

What do you do differently and uniquely well?

    TEAM SCHOOL

"TEAM School addresses the needs of a variety of students: students who require academic upgrading, students who benefit from small class sizes and extra teacher support, and students who have had an educational assessment indicating a learning challenge. TEAM School the Science of Reading approaches to learning reading. Targeted intervention and ongoing data collection of students' evaluation helps to ensure that we are maintaining the appropriate level of instruction for each student."

What tradeoffs has school_name made to serve families in this way?

What tradeoffs has your school made to serve families in this way?

    TEAM SCHOOL

"While we value creativity in the TEAM School classroom, we first need to ensure that there is a solid foundation. Additionally, while interest-based learning has its place, sometimes teachers will need to limit the scope of the subject matter in order to provide a narrower focus."

What key junctures in school_name's history have most shaped its present?

What key junctures in your school's history have most shaped its present?

    TEAM SCHOOL

"Key moments in the history of TEAM School begin with the founding of the school in 1981. A milestone for the school was in 1991 - when TEAM School adopted DI (Direct Instruction) as a teaching methodology. In 2012, the Ontario Human Rights Commission released the Right To Read Report. In 2024, we introduced the TEAM School Prep Programme in which further support is provided through a smaller class size (5 students) and individualized programme."

What type of student is a good fit for school_name?

What type of student is a good fit for your school?

    TEAM SCHOOL

"TEAM School offers a positive learning environment for a variety of students. For example, students who have been identified with a learning disability or students who are on the Autism Spectrum Disorder can benefit from TEAM School’s small class sizes and highly structured environment. With respect to exceptional learners, while TEAM School does have some gifted students, the typical TEAM student is challenged and requires additional support. A typical TEAM student may also experience organizational difficulties or anxiety. Most important, perhaps, are the family of the child’s expectation and mindset. There must be a recognition that the child’s needs are not being met in the current school and that a change of school may be beneficial. Once this is established, doors to learning begin to open and parents will begin to experience clear and regular communication regarding the child’s progress and learning."

Under what conditions would you advise a family against choosing school_name?

Under what conditions would you advise a family against choosing your school?

    TEAM SCHOOL

"TEAM School employs DI (Direct Instruction) as a main method of instruction. We employ technology as appropriate and when appropriate for student learning, but it is not embedded into every lesson, everyday. Nightly homework is an integral part of consolidating classwork. As a school aimed at remediating issues in a child's learning, inquiry-based learning and student-directed learning are less of a focus"

To your knowledge, why do families choose school_name over others?

To your knowledge, why do families choose your school over others?

    TEAM SCHOOL

"Families choose TEAM School because they value traditional approaches to learning. Parents see their child’s confidence increase as they experience success. Gaps close as the TEAM student’s work ethic improves. Clear and regularly-scheduled communication with the teacher, extracurricular options, and leadership opportunities all contribute to a positive and supportive framework designed for student success. Facilities for swimming and outdoor education round out a complete learning experience. Our transportation system safely delivers to and from school everyday covering all of Mississauga, Brampton, Oakville, and Etobicoke."

How would you characterize school_name's image amongst the public?

How would you characterize your school's image amongst the public?

    TEAM SCHOOL

"First-time visitors to the school often mention TEAM School’s individualized attention. When we interact with parents at events like the Our Kids Expo, they seem to have the sense that the TEAM programme is an impactful one that makes positive changes in students’ lives. Parents regularly mention and ask about our extracurricular programme."

What aspect of school_name is underappreciated?

What aspect of your school is underappreciated?

    TEAM SCHOOL

"We believe that the TEAM extracurricular program offers a club or team for just about every interest. There are clubs, teams, and special events at TEAM that have been running for decades. Many of these groups were initiated by a student or staff member's passion and knowledge in a specific area. Most clubs, teams, and events are grade/division-specific and school-wide events like the Culture Show and the charity fundraiser Arcadium bring together students of all ages."

What do families find surprising about school_name?

What might families find surprising about your school?

    TEAM SCHOOL

"Families are pleased when they discover how long TEAM School has been in existence. For over 40 years, TEAM has prepared students for success by providing a solid academic foundation. Visitors may also be surprised by the dynamic programming - which shifts, changes, and adapts depending on the individual student's progression. TEAM School is a typical school full of typical students. Instead of closing doors, TEAM opens doors to new opportunities."

What improvements or changes has school_name made recently?

What improvements or changes has your school made recently?

    TEAM SCHOOL

"The biggest change in recent years has been the introduction of the TEAM School Prep Programme in 2024. The TEAM Preparatory (Prep) programme provides further support through a smaller class size and individualized programme. Students work toward skill acquisition with emphasis on the integration of personal skills and work habits for individual success and a greater level of independence. Students are grouped by division (Primary, Junior, Intermediate, and Senior) up to the Grade 8 level, in classes of up to 5 students organized using the TEAM model with team-teaching of two classes in the classroom. The TEAM Prep programme prepares students for continuation to the next level of the programme or for transition into the TEAM programme, and for success in a larger class setting."
