There are lots of potential boxes that Montessori schools could tick, and Alder Ridge ticks all of them and then some. The facility is new, built purposefully to house the program, which is a definite plus. Spaces are large, filled with natural light, and designed to allow large group interaction as well as smaller, breakout groups. The playground is well appointed, though delivery of physical education is augmented by an indoor gymnasium and pool. There is a hot lunch program, and a host of co-curriculars. Classes are kept to 15 students in the toddler program, 16 in the Casa, with two instructors each. The focus is on skill mastery through guided play and group inquiry, so is very much a Montessori-plus approach, one that reflects the tradition while bringing in more recent best practices. Summer camps offer opportunities to get a sense of the offering and, for those already enrolled, a chance to extend the experience through the summer months. In all, there’s a lot to love, both for students and parents alike.

Whole-class lectures should never be given. Students learn best through small group lessons, interaction, and independent work.
External special education support is only rarely necessary. For instance, a psychologist might be brought in to help out a student with a severe developmental disorder.
We only use specialist teachers and classes in rare cases (for instance, to teach a second language). Core teachers are well-equipped to teach almost all subjects.
Modern-day technology is used in moderation since it can be a distraction. For instance, computers and other digital media might be used for research, writing, and multimedia projects.
