The school is situated in a house in a residential neighbourhood. The outdoor space of the school is truly exceptional and extends very far back and was perfect for hosting the community events. The only draw back was the physical location. Due to the nature of times for before and after care, and the lack of access to direct transit routes, we needed to get a second vehicle in order to make sure everyone arrived at school and work on time. As well, the school is situated on the downward slope of a substantial hill. Drivers speed down very quickly, which needs to be monitored vigilantly when bringing kids in and out of cars. Also, it is a very very challenging hill to navigate in snowstorms.
The B.E.N. is a unique school in that it is nestled in a house in a residential neighborhood - but has a large outdoor space. This setting feels secure and safe - a good places to start any endeavor with children. The children often go on accompanied walks - very often into the cemetery nearby (which my children grew to love for its huge trees and peaceful setting), and to the nearby parks. There were trips to the local bakeries and shops (they went to buy groceries when they were learning to make crepes in their French class), and many trips further afield to events like a symphony performance (when the children to take the TTC.)
The B.E.N. School-house is in a quiet residential community, with a lovely school yard, gardens for planting, and lots of opportunities for walks to the local parks and green space, bakery shops, grocer, garden centre, splash pad or tobogganing hill. The school and students are a lively part of the community and enjoy lots of walks and community engagement!
The school is located in a quiet family area with a nice sized park and splash pad within a 5 minute walk. It is relatively easily accessible by transit (bus), it is away from busy streets. Parking can sometimes be a small challenge when attending events at the school, though there is more than enough during drop off and pick up.
The school is in a residential neighbourhood, which gives it a cozy, community feel. It is located near a park/splash pad and is also within a safe walking distance to a main bus route, which allows for field trips via public transportation. The grounds of the BEN School-House themselves are very inviting; there's a large tent in the back yard, which allows for outdoor play and special events, even when it's raining. There is beautiful landscaping and a sand pit in the back yard as well.
