The students who do best here are the ones who are willing to engage consistently rather than cram for one exam. Because OSSD rewards steady effort—participation, projects, readings, quizzes—kids who were burned out by exam-only systems (like China’s Gaokao or even IB/A-Level pressure) thrive. My son is not a natural test-taker; within two terms, his confidence returned because he could show growth over time. My son’s English teacher pushed him on essay structure and critical thinking; his math teacher gave detailed feedback on every assignment. The faculty succeeds because they treat process-based assessment seriously: 70% coursework, 30% final, exactly as Ontario mandates. They don’t just “give marks”—they coach. The bilingual support staff (academic advisors and homeroom mentors) also kept us in the loop monthly, which mattered a lot as non-Canadian parents.

Nord communicates proactively—weekly updates, transparent transcript verification, and quick responses when we had questions about university applications. What they do best is balancing flexibility with accountability. If I could ask for one improvement, it would be more live parent Q&A sessions across time zones, since many of us are based outside Canada. But overall, the direction is steady and parent-friendly.
