(5) Student Experience
At Clear Water Academy, our children found more than just a school. From the beginning, we were assigned a family that helped us get acclimated, and our kids were made to feel welcome by the faculty and the other students. They were encouraged to get involved, and after one year, they were enrolled in several clubs. Both developed an almost immediate sense of belonging that helped build their confidence. Academically, both are very engaged. The coursework is rigorous, but very manageable and age-appropriate. The teachers are accessible and encouraging, and offer a lot of support to students and parents. Grades are earned, not given, and our boys have developed high standards for their work and the ethic to support that workload. Most importantly, the school has profoundly shaped their character. Faith is woven into every interaction at Clear Water, not just relegated to a single course. They have developed in their compassion and have built a sincere desire to serve others, which they have realized through several volunteer activities. The school has helped them to thrive academically, socially, and spiritually. I sincerely cannot say enough good things about this school.
Why Clear Water Academy?
Our children were originally attending Clear Water Academy, but after a move, attended two other schools over the course of three years. Neither met our expectations from a spiritual or academic perspective, and made us realize how great we had it. One of the motivating factors for a return to Calgary was to return to CWA.
Expectations vs. Reality
During our orientation session years ago, a well-dressed and surprisingly articulate child welcomed us and directed us to a classroom where we listened to students recite poetry and talk about their experience at the school. It was a much higher standard than we had seen at our previous school, and despite my initial doubts, our children are now well-dressed and articulate participants who welcome prospective parents and recite poetry. It was as advertised.
Your Advice
Consider what is best for your child and your family. Calgary has some great options for schools, but for a Catholic family that wants to give the best possible foundation in life for their child, this is the answer.
