MESSAGE FROM THE LEADERSHIP

We invited Dennis Innes, Head of School at Fraser Academy, to share a message.

The overview highlights the vision, values, and guiding principles that shape leadership and the student experience at Fraser Academy.

Fraser Academy, Dennis Innes, Head of School

Dennis Innes, Head of School

Welcome to Fraser Academy.

Since 1982, Fraser Academy has been committed to changing the lives of children and youth with dyslexia and other language-based learning differences. What began with eight students in Langley has grown into a vibrant school community serving approximately 260 students at our Kitsilano campus, while our outreach programs extend our impact to many more learners, families, and educators.

At Fraser Academy, we believe every student deserves to be understood, challenged, and empowered. Our mission is to celebrate the unique strengths of individuals with dyslexia and language-based learning differences, providing them with the skills, confidence, and opportunities to shape their own futures.

Our approach is highly personalized. Students benefit from evidence-informed instruction, targeted support, and a learning environment designed around how they learn best. At the same time, they are encouraged to recognize their strengths, become increasingly independent, and develop the resilience to approach challenges with confidence.

Our values are reflected in RAISE:

Resilience: having the courage to persevere
Acceptance: demonstrating respect, empathy, and openness
Innovation: continually improving teaching and learning
Self-Reliance: using personal strengths and resources to become independent
Excellence: maintaining high standards in everything we do

These values shape not only our academic programs, but also the relationships and sense of community that define Fraser Academy. Our teachers and staff work closely with students and families, recognizing that meaningful progress is built through collaboration, trust, and a shared belief in what each learner can achieve.

Fraser Academy’s history has been shaped by families, educators, alumni, and community partners who refused to accept that a learning difference should limit a young person’s choices. Their dedication established a strong foundation of educational excellence and continues to inspire us as we look toward the future.

Our vision—Changing Destiny by Changing Minds—extends beyond the walls of our school. We want to help change how dyslexia is understood in education and in society. By recognizing the creativity, problem-solving ability, determination, and diverse perspectives of individuals with dyslexia, we can create learning environments where more young people are able to thrive.

It is a privilege to lead Fraser Academy into its next chapter. I look forward to building on the school’s strong foundation, expanding its impact, and working alongside our students, families, staff, alumni, and partners to create greater choice and opportunity for learners with language-based learning differences.

I invite you to learn more about Fraser Academy, explore our programs, and discover the strength of our community.
