(5) Student Experience
The quality of the education at Hopscotch is wonderful, and my child has had a great time attending the school. He started when he was just over a year old, and my partner and I have rejoiced seeing his strength, motor skills, social skills, intelligence, manners, and confidence grow with each passing day. We receive notes about my son's progress each week, with photo updates sent often. The ratio of teacher to student is very low, which means your child will likely get more individualized attention than in other environments. Also, the school makes an effort to be inclusive and diverse in its offerings, which is so important for his development. For example, my son has learned about different cultural holidays and traditions — everything from Hanukkah to Nowruz to Robbie Burns Day — with parents often invited to join in. A real highlight for my son was a day when animals, including a chinchilla, a hedgehog, a tortoise, and a parrot, were brought into the classroom. A highlight for us was the spring tea party, where parents and children all sat together and had tea and sandwiches, chatting. I would recommend Hopscotch Montessori to other parents if the cost is within their means.
Why Hopscotch Montessori School?
We chose Hopscotch Montessori because it was near our home and, after taking a tour, we were very impressed with the facilities and the early childhood educators who would be teaching our child.
Expectations vs. Reality
My expectations were met, for the most part! I was pleasantly surprised by the diverse offerings, especially the pet/animal day and the tea party day. Those were definitely highlights.
Your Advice
Parents should know that the ratio of teacher to student is very low, which means your child will likely get more individualized attention than in other environments.
(4) School Leadership
Communication with parents and students was effective. A couple of times, we were not alerted in a timely fashion about an injury our child sustained, but it was rare.
(5) Teaching
I'm very happy with the quality of education that my child is receiving at Hopscotch Montessori. Whenever there is an opportunity to chat with the teachers about my son, they are enthusiastic and open, providing detailed updates about his learning and behaviour. It's very helpful to know about my son when I am not with him.
