Metropolitan Preparatory Academy

Looking for a private school in Toronto? Consider Metropolitan Preparatory Academy, a leading coed private school for grades 7 to 12.

Toronto Private Schools

Find over 80 Toronto schools listed below.

The Greater Toronto Area (GTA), including downtown Toronto (such as the Annex and Bloor West), midtown (such as St. Clair West and Forest Hill), North York, Scarborough, Vaughan, Mississauga, Etobicoke, Markham, Thornhill, Richmond Hill, Newmarket, and Aurora, offers diverse choices of private schools. These Toronto schools include boardingMontessori, special needs, gifted, Christian, and Catholic schools. They also include language immersion, IB, AP, and preschools (and daycares).

In preparation for both university and future careers, students are encouraged to trust their instincts and think both critically and creatively."

Here are some benefits of Toronto private schools:

  • Facilities  — Many public schools have excellent facilities. However, private schools generally provide better facilities because they have vast resources and can work within their own budgets. Many of Toronto's private schools, for example, have impressive gymnasiums and information technology equipment.
  • Small class sizes — While the average class size varies according to which private school you select, your child will most likely have smaller classes than he or she would at another type of school. As such, your son or daughter will receive more attention from his or her teachers. Moreover, your child will also have plenty of opportunities to ask questions and participate in class. Learning is interactive, not merely rote.
  • Community atmosphere — Private schools typically have lower enrolment numbers than other kinds of schools. Moreover, they have the capacity to offer plenty of extracurricular and social activities. Their small community makes private schools well equipped to serve each student's individual needs.
  • Leadership opportunities — Because your child will be in a welcoming and supportive environment ripe with extracurricular activities, he or she will have plenty of leadership opportunities. Students can develop many life and leadership skills, for instance, as student council members, club presidents and school ambassadors.

Going to School in Toronto

Toronto, which has a population of over 2.7 million people, is one of the most multicultural cities in the world. Here, your child will probably interact with students from many different backgrounds. Toronto is one of the best cities in Canada for exposure to diversity, global education and innovation.

Private School Regulations in Ontario

The Ontario Ministry of Education legally requires all private schools in the province to register and provide annual statistical reports. Every Ontario private school must file a yearly Notice of Intention to operate with the Ministry of Education. Although all private schools in Ontario are considered businesses or non-profit organizations, the ministry must inspect a private secondary school in order to authorize it to award credits for the Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD).

The ministry does not inspect private elementary schools except for those with a registered complaint. Therefore, parents are encouraged to exercise due diligence and do their research, including finding out a school's reputation through students, parents and reputable media reports. You may also find out the status of a school on the ministry's website.

Private School Expos

Toronto private schools are a staple at Our Kids. Meet with Toronto's top ranked private schools and the best boarding schools across Canada at the Halton-Peel Private School Expo and Toronto Private School Expo in October.
