Special needs schools with programs to help kids with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder are the best education options for children with ADHD. ADHD education aids or teachers in Toronto have comprehensive training in assisting students with the disorder. If you are concerned about paying for a private school, we have "Tips on Paying for Private School." You should also know that if your child attends a private school for children with special needs, you may be eligible for a medical tax break.

The GTA has numerous schools with ADHD support. Here, you will find diversity amongst types of schools across Toronto, Mississauga, Markham, Scarborough, and all of Ontario that have ADHD education programs. You have many options, such as traditional, special needs schools, learning disability schoolsfaith-based schools, day and boarding private schools. These are offered at the elementary, middle, and high school levels.

During your in-person interviews or when you are filling out school applications, you should be as detailed as possible. Hiding information that could help the private school improve your child's education will only hurt him or her in the long-term. Furthermore, getting into a Toronto private school is not as important as finding the right fit for your special needs. In short, the school needs to know a lot about your ADHD child to identify whether such a match exists.

Signs of ADHD

ADHD Canada lists numerous signs of ADHD, such as trouble sitting still, constant daydreaming, difficulty taking turns, and inability to focus on one thing (e.g. wandering from toy to toy. ADHD Canada also notes that "no special psychological or laboratory test diagnose this disorder." Instead, "a collection of evidence and the elimination of other possible causes for the symptoms" comprise the diagnosis. Ourkids.net also provides a more detailed list of ADHD symptoms.
