Currently doing the pandemic our schedule has slightly changed to meet the safety requirements. However, we were able to take part in a wide range of activities within the dorm and in the community. Those activities include games night, such as Family Feud, Charades, Table Tennis and Nintendo Video Games. In addition, there are opportunities for life-skill experiences such as baking and preparing tasty meals, such as bread, pizza, smoothies, cotton candy, ice-cream and etc.
The extracurriculars that I am involved with at J. Addison School are Residence Council, Student Council, Badminton Club and Peer Mentoring Club. Personally, I enjoy these clubs as they have helped me to be a well-rounded individual at the school. I've realized that every student should have a balance between their academic and personal life as it can be extremely stressful by focusing one's attention on studying and completing assignments. From my personal observation, I feel that every student has the opportunity to take part in a wide range of clubs at the school to meet their interests. Equally as important, the extra-curricular program is not overwhelming as it provides an opportunity to socialize with other individuals within a relaxed setting as well as consider the feedback of the students for continual improvement.
Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, our extra-curricular experience has been amended to meet the health and safety guidelines of the city of Markham, which is challenging for the current day and boarding students. Nevertheless, the dorm team has offered a wide range of activities that are safe for us to do, which still makes a great experience. My hope is that we can return to a normal extra-curricular schedule that will offer a great experience as before.
Before the current pandemic (Covid 19), I used to enjoy playing outside on the playground with my friends and taking part in fun activities planned by the school's faculty such as a "snow man" building competition, soccer, volleyball and badminton. Moreover, currently I am a residence council leader. Being a residence council leader, I am able to plan a wide-range of activities with the dorm staff to uplift the spirit of the school and dorm community.
Prior to the Covid-19 pandemic, I had the opportunity to be a part of various student and residence life activities. In addition, currently I am apart of Residence Council, which is a student leadership club that creates and plans fun activities for the school community. The school offers a large number of clubs for the students to participate, such as Badminton, Yearbook, Fitness, Computer/Video Games, Student Council and etc. Moreover, the residence life department plans community outreach activities for the school community, such as the Markham-Terry Fox Run, CIBC Run for Cure, Up-CN Tower Climb for United Way and etc. I believe that every student at J. Addison School to be involved and there is always something for them to do.
