During COVID-19, our off-campus activities have slightly changed, however, we do have the opportunity for supervised off-campus ventures for a short period of time, such as going to the park within the community, fresh air breaks, or enjoying a well-loved after school snack at Tim Hortons or Wendys. What I love about the off-campus experience is that everything is right across from the school or a short walking distance from the school.
The school location of J. Addison School is situated in Markham, Ontario, which is about 20-30 minutes from Toronto. Prior to COVID-19, dorm students had the opportunity to leave the campus daily to enjoy the amenities that the city has to offer. However, due to the safety measures implemented by the school and the York region, the opportunity to leave campus has been slightly amended for essential services until further notice. Nevertheless, the faculty and dorm staff have provided supervised outdoor activities within a safe manner for the students.
The current pandemic of Covid-19 has provided limited access to student movement at J. Addison School to ensure the health and safety of the school community until further notice. Despite this challenge, the school administration and dorm team have provided supervised outdoor activities in a safe manner that we can enjoy, which has truly been helpful to our mental and social well-being.
In order to ensure the health and safety of the school and dorm community, unfortunately, the dorm students have limited movement for off-campus activities. Being a dorm student, I greatly appreciate the efforts of the school and dorm administration for providing alternative "safe-fun-engaging" activities that can continue to uplift our spirits, such as going to the park, ice-skating and hiking.
Before the current pandemic, dorm students had the opportunity to leave campus freely once notified to the attention of school or dorm administration. This opportunity allowed dorm students to integrate within the Markham community in a safe manner while gaining responsible life-skills, such as grocery shopping, volunteering and engaging in fun social activities. Currently, this opportunity has been amended for the safety of our well-being, however we are still able to leave campus at scheduled times with a dorm supervisor until the current pandemic has ended.
