Qualitative insights

These insights are based on conversations with parents, alumni, and school leadership. Handpicked and curated by our editor, they offer a close look at how the school is experienced and perceived by those who know it best.

The environment is nurturing and encouraging.

Accounts from parents and students highlight that KCS fosters a welcoming atmosphere where children can discover and develop their unique talents, contributing to a positive and engaging school experience.

They really have this mindset of celebrating the unique gifts of every child, allowing them to explore that gift and learn it about themselves, whether that's something entrepreneurial or something related to the arts. If you have a passion for something and it doesn't exist at the school, then they'll work with you.
My kids both adjusted to the school immediately. The environment was very warm and welcoming, with tons and tons of activities that they both really enjoyed getting involved in. I found that they were getting up early, happy to go to school, and couldn't be more excited to start their day. The school has lots of great get-to-know-you activities, from a welcome-back barbecue in September, to their special camping trip at the start of Grade 6.
For my 14-year-old son, Adam, I would say that there's a lot of opportunities for him to be himself. He likes to be artistic and creative. He's been in the school musical every year. He loves to sing and perform, so he's been in the school Talent Show every year. He loves to be creative. They have an after-school program, on Thursdays, called Makerspace, where you can develop an idea and roll with it. My son, Adam, never missed Makerspace. He just loves that openness to be able to create on your own terms, in your own time, and just to be himself.

Opportunities are comprehensive and inclusive.

Feedback from parents indicates that the comprehensive and inclusive extracurricular programs at KCS provide diverse, accessible opportunities for students of all athletic abilities and interests, fostering broad participation and enjoyment.

KCS has over 40 extracurricular and athletic clubs. They're part of the private school athletic association and CISSA. And so, there's ample opportunity, whether you're doing formal basketball or track and field. Then there's also a lot of clubs like taekwondo, the chess club, and Art In Action. And so, regardless of your passions, and whether they’re known or unknown, there are lots of opportunities to explore them at KCS.
I would absolutely recommend KCS for a number of different reasons, but fundamentally, the enriched academics, the opportunity for extensive athletic and artistic options, the focus on being on social responsibility and being a good citizen really drew us to the school, and those are the reasons why I would highly recommend the school to other parents.
We feel the extracurricular programming, available at KCS is fulsome, diverse, and accessible to all students. Our children are of varying athletic ability levels and have been able to participate widely over the years and in a positive environment. We particularly enjoy the rotation of activities, and the range of clubs available for the kids and see them enjoying their participation. Without question, the KCS musical is a highlight. It has broad participation from the student body and puts on a production that is surprising in its calibre for students of this age group.
