The Academy of Thought and Industry Toronto hosted an open house last weekend. Opening the doors to the community for the very first time was an amazing feeling, and the strength of the Montessori community in the east end was very apparent!
True to the Montessori approach, students were active participants in the preparation for the event. Enrolled students were invited to participate by setting up the environment and organizing classroom supplies. Using the label maker and deciding how to categorize the library by genre were both a big hit. Students also personalized their lockers in preparation for September.
Later in the afternoon, prospective families and community members were invited in to check out the classroom space, meet the teaching staff, and learn more about ATI’s high-accountability, high-autonomy approach. Executive Director Laura Mazer was also in attendance to meet families and answer their questions.
This was the first of many events to come, and the team was very encouraged by the enthusiasm of the east end community and the support everyone has shown for the school. Individual appointments will continue to be offered once a month throughout the summer, for families to tour the space and learn about ATI’s unique approach to middle school.
