Bayview Glen Robotics Teams Finished Top 5 at FLL Provincials 2015

On January 17, three Bayview Glen Robotics teams competed at the FIRST LEGO League (FLL) Ontario East Provincial Championships at the University of Ontario Institute of Technology. Teams Ctrl-Z, Gryphonbots, and Robotics Elite Designers (RED) all represented our school proudly.
After successfully competing at the regional tournaments, these teams spent the last month refining their research projects and robots, while promoting the core values of the FIRST LEGO League. Their hard work was rewarded when all three teams won major awards, and finished in the top 5 out of the 40 other teams that competed in the FLL Ontario East Provincial Championships.

  • Team Ctrl-Z won the 1st place Champions Award and is advancing to the FIRST International Championship in St. Louis this April.
  • Team Gryphonbots also won a Champions award, finishing 3rd overall.
  • Team RED finished 5th overall, claiming the Innovative Solution award for their project on autism.

Bayview Glen was the only school in the province who had three teams qualify for the FLL Provincials.

All students were overjoyed with the results. The teams surpassed previous records. Both the Gryphonbots and Ctrl-Z designed robots that made the Robotics Games playoffs, finishing within the top 4 of all robot scores. Ctrl-Z was one of two teams selected to model their research presentation in front of hundreds of spectators, and the rookie team RED surpassed their own expectations in the Robotics Games portion of the competition. Bayview Glen is very proud.
Highlights along this season's journey were consulting with many professionals, developing valuable presentation skills, demonstrating innovative solutions and complex programming on a live CTV news telecast to over 100,000 viewers, and of course having fun building robots.
