In celebration of Black History Month, Grade 12 student and Diversity prefect A.K. Okpala spoke to the College at Chapel today about a sense of belonging at HSC. "Through inclusivity, we allow members of HSC to feel like they belong here, like they have a home. HSC is a community that takes pride in its diversity. A diverse school is where individuals can remain individuals. It’s where people can find the strength to be unique without worrying about “fitting in”. It’s where we can find the beauty in our differences. Treating people with respect is one of the best ways to build our community."
Continuing to celebrate Black History month in the classroom, the Montessori students learned about three black history heroes—Harriet Tubman, Lincoln Alexander, and Bernie Custis, all who have a connection to our local community.
To conclude our celebration of Black History Month, we had some very special guests and performances at Chapel.
