This week, Star Academy facilitated our 7th Annual Dove Workshop for Mothers & Daughters, an event which explores body confidence, self-esteem and the unique beauty of Being a Girl!
Star Academy's Five Pillars of Child Development recognize the importance of educating all aspects of a child, including the social, emotional and physical as well as their academic and global education. With this in mind, events like this are integral to providing the best well-rounded education for our students.
Young women in today’s world are faced with so many images of beauty that it is important to surround them with positive female role models. In most cases, young girls admit that the woman with the greatest influence over their self-esteem is their mother, which is why Dove developed a program to foster positive self-esteem for young girls in a workshop attended by mothers and daughters.
Every fall, Star Academy hosts a Dove Workshop for Self-Esteem. It has become a beautiful evening, where the girls and their mothers can talk about self-esteem issues with each other and their peers in a safe and open environment. Following the workshop, the girls have some bonding time to do a variety of activities together, developing their collaboration and creativity skills, and the mothers gather for sparkling water, wine, cheese and further conversation.
Over the years, we have found that by fostering open dialogue and support we have little in the way of typical girl drama. Our young ladies leave us with self-reliance, confidence and skills sets that will help their journey into adulthood be less tumultuous.
Committing to building a strong school community ensures that our students understand citizenship and its rights and responsibilities. From this, we all benefit.
