Virtual Learning

We have moved to online learning and events and gatherings have been canceled for the next two weeks. And yet we are still Sacred Heart. We are an amazing community of kindness, resilience, and compassion. Let’s make sure that physical-distancing measures do not get in the way of our ability to be present for one another. I encourage you to find time each day to check in with each other: text a fellow student, email a colleague and connect by phone with a member of our community.

Virtual Learning

We are all in this together - our community has done an extraordinary job of adapting to our new reality. Our virtual teaching is going very well. I am so proud (and not surprised!) of how well our teachers have risen to the occasion and are offering some stability to the students with innovative and engaging work. A special thank you to our librarian, Joan Harrison, for creating such an extensive collection of resources and to our Director of IT, Mr. Sonny Nicholas, for preparing such a comprehensive PD day for the faculty on the technical logistics of presenting online learning. A huge thank you goes to Director of Academics, Anika Maloni for being ever-present to answer faculty, parent and student questions. The feedback we are getting from students and parents is very positive.

Prefects

Thank you, from the bottom of my heart, to the prefects, under the guidance of the Director of Student Services Erika Rath, for their leadership and to the student body, faculty and staff for responding. Please follow their Instagram @shsmprefects to follow their daily challenges - a ray of sunshine on a cloudy afternoon.

Faculty and Staff

I want to thank and commend all of our faculty and staff for the positive and supportive way they have responded to this unique challenge. Some of our faculty have taken to sending uplifting messages to their colleagues; our counselors, Ms. Boyard and Ms. Gorman-Fisk have created an Instagram @shsmwellness and post daily positive messages.

Despite the challenges and uncertainty we are all facing, we hope you are heartened by the strength of our shared values, mission and goals, and by the incredible goodwill that exists within our school community. Remember the words uttered by our foundress Ste Madeleine Sophie Barat - “Courage et confiance.”

Stay well and God Bless,

Shawn O’Donnell
