(5) Overall Experience

OVS was amazing; extremely easy to use, accessible, and with very fast response times and grading. I couldn’t have gone to a better private school for a very important course I decided to take. When I was initially doing tests, the lessons and teacher help were extremely efficient and helpful; I had no trouble solving very complex problems. Also, for the exam, the process to find and use a proctor was very quick, easy, and secure. I knew they needed to be sure, and they wasted no time helping me find a great proctor and commence my exam. Lastly, grading was extremely helpful and fast. I understood exactly what I did right and wrong, and I worked toward being better throughout the course, which is why I improved.

(5) School Leadership

I think if OVS had more meetings throughout the course to help students stay on track and on course, it would be extremely helpful. Just more reminders to sort of push students to complete their courses quickly and with the best grade possible. I have very limited criticism of the program, as it’s very well managed and the process of getting my credit was relatively seamless and easy.

(5) Teaching

The teaching at Ontario Virtual School was overall very strong and exceeded my expectations for an online learning platform. The teachers were knowledgeable, organized, and communicated instructions clearly. Course materials were well-structured and supported independent learning while still offering teacher assistance when needed. The dynamic between teachers and students was professional, with a clear sense of mutual respect. Although most interactions were through messages or scheduled virtual meetings, teachers were responsive and provided detailed, constructive feedback on assignments. They made it clear they wanted students to succeed and were available for help when asked. One standout was my math teacher, who took the time to break down difficult concepts and offer extra resources to ensure I understood everything. I felt challenged and supported, and the experience strengthened my confidence as a student.

(5) Academics

The academic program at Ontario Virtual School is well-organized and flexible, allowing students to learn at their own pace while maintaining academic rigor. One of its greatest strengths is the clear and structured course content, which helps students stay focused and organized. The school provides strong support through helpful videos, detailed lesson notes, and responsive instructors. The academic atmosphere is independent but not isolating; students are encouraged to take responsibility for their learning while still having access to guidance. The environment is more collegial than competitive, as students progress individually. I felt appropriately challenged, especially in subjects like math and science, and always had the resources I needed to succeed. The school prepared me well for university-level work by fostering strong time-management skills and self-discipline. Prospective families can expect a serious, supportive academic environment.

(5) School Life

Student life at Ontario Virtual School is very different from a traditional school, as it’s fully online and self-paced. I appreciated the flexibility it gave me to manage my time and focus on other commitments outside of school. While there weren’t typical school events or in-person interactions, the overall experience was positive. Most students seemed to appreciate the independence, though it’s best suited for motivated learners. There isn’t much of a social atmosphere, so those seeking daily peer engagement might find it lacking. That said, the reduced stress from rigid schedules and the ability to work at your own pace made the experience more enjoyable for me. To improve student life, the school could consider optional virtual clubs or discussion groups to create a sense of community.

(5) Admissions

If you’re planning to apply to Ontario Virtual School, my advice is to stay organized and ask questions if you’re unsure about anything. The application process was straightforward and not stressful. The staff was helpful and responsive, making the experience smooth. They seemed more focused on making sure the school was a good fit than being overly selective. Make sure to review course requirements ahead of time and be clear about your goals to get the most out of the experience.

(5) University placement and counselling

The university counselling program at Ontario Virtual School provided a decent level of support, particularly through online resources and clear course-planning tools. I appreciated the availability of guidance counselors who responded to questions about prerequisites, course selection, and graduation requirements. However, I felt that more personalized, proactive support would have been helpful, especially when it came to exploring university options and navigating the application process. While I did receive guidance, it was mostly reactive rather than offered early on. A structured timeline or regular check-ins could have made the process smoother. I was able to apply successfully to my first-choice program, but much of the preparation I did was independent. The school could improve by offering more one-on-one counselling and workshops focused on post-secondary planning and deadlines.
