(5) Overall Experience

My experience at Ontario Virtual School was incredibly positive. I took ICS3U because I wanted to earn the Grade 11 Computer Science credit before summer so I could take Grade 12 Computer Science in summer school. The flexibility OVS offers made this possible, I was able to work at my own pace and finish the course efficiently. The content was well-organized, and the video lessons were easy to follow. The best part was how quickly my teacher marked assignments and responded to any questions I had. I never felt stuck or confused for long. The process was also very seamless to send my final report card to my full-time school guidance counselor in order to add it to my transcript and give me the prerequisite required to take the grade 12 computer science course in the summer. Overall, I highly recommend OVS to anyone needing flexibility and high-quality instruction.

(5) School Leadership

While I didn’t interact much with the school leadership directly, I found the communication from the administration and student support team to be clear and helpful. Any questions I had about course registration or progress were addressed quickly by email. It’s clear that OVS has systems in place to support students, even in a fully online environment. I appreciated how streamlined everything was, from enrollment to report cards. It helped me stay focused on the course without administrative distractions.

(5) Teaching

The teaching in ICS3U at OVS was excellent. The lessons were clearly explained through video tutorials, and the online textbook The Coder’s Apprentice was very helpful in deepening my understanding. The teacher was responsive, respectful, and knowledgeable. I appreciated how quickly my assignments were marked, which allowed me to move through the course without long delays. The feedback I received was constructive and helped me improve. The communication style was professional but supportive, it encouraged independent learning, while still providing guidance when needed. I was never left questioning something for too long as whenever I asked a question via email, my teacher responded very quickly and in detail. I felt challenged but also well-supported, which made the learning experience both efficient and rewarding. I would definitely take another course at OVS based on this positive teaching experience.

(5) Academics

Academically, Ontario Virtual School offers a flexible and rigorous program. ICS3U covered a lot of material in a structured way, making it easier to manage self-paced learning. The curriculum challenged me to develop problem-solving and programming skills, and I always felt like I was building toward a clear goal. While the course required independent effort, the resources provided, such as lesson videos, the online textbook, and practice tasks, gave me the foundation I needed to succeed. The environment encourages self-discipline, which I think is a valuable skill in itself. There wasn’t a competitive atmosphere like in some in-person schools; instead, it was more about personal growth and setting your own academic goals. I feel well-prepared for the Grade 12 course and beyond.

(5) School Life

Since OVS is fully online, the typical “school life” experience is different than what you’d find at a traditional school. There aren’t clubs or events, but for students who are motivated and looking to work independently, it’s a great fit. I enjoyed having control over my schedule and being able to work during times that suited me best. That flexibility really boosted my productivity and reduced stress. While there’s not a student community in the same way, the responsiveness of teachers and support staff made me feel like I wasn’t working alone. For improvement, maybe OVS could consider optional online forums or study groups for students who want more interaction with others. Overall, I was happy and felt supported throughout my time at OVS.

(5) Admissions

The admissions process at OVS was simple and stress-free. I found everything I needed clearly laid out on the website, and registration was straightforward. I appreciated how quickly I was able to start my course after enrolling, it made it easy to plan my schedule and meet my learning goals. The staff was helpful when I had questions, and everything was explained in a way that made me feel confident about the process. I would definitely recommend OVS to other students looking for a smooth and efficient admission experience.
