(5) Overall Experience

My experience with Ontario Virtual School was very positive. I completed Grade 12 Chemistry (SCH4U) and finished with a 95%. What I liked most was being able to work through the course at my own pace while still having a clear structure and deadlines to keep me on track. The video lessons, textbook, and practice questions helped break down difficult chemistry concepts, especially topics involving calculations. My teacher’s feedback was detailed, and assignments and tests were usually marked within a reasonable amount of time, so I knew what I needed to improve before moving forward. The flexibility was especially helpful because I could balance the course with school, work, volunteering, and extracurricular activities. If I could change one thing, I would include more optional live review sessions before major tests and the final exam. Overall, OVS helped me become more independent, organized, and responsible for my own learning. Prospective students should expect a flexible but academically challenging course that requires good time management and consistent effort.

Looking Back

What stands out most is the flexibility and independence I had throughout the course. I especially remember the satisfaction of understanding difficult chemistry concepts, improving with my teacher’s feedback, and eventually earning a 95% in SCH4U.

Current Perspective

Looking back, I see Ontario Virtual School more positively than I did while taking the course. At the time, I mainly appreciated the flexibility and ability to work at my own pace. Now, I realize that the experience also strengthened my time management, independence, and self-discipline. These skills have helped me balance school, work, volunteering, and extracurricular activities. I also recognize that flexibility can be both a strength and a challenge. Students receive freedom, but they must remain motivated, plan ahead, and avoid procrastinating. More optional live review sessions would improve the experience, but overall, the structure prepared me well academically.

Your Advice

My honest advice is to create a weekly schedule and stay consistent from the beginning. The flexibility is helpful, but it can be easy to fall behind if you keep postponing lessons or assignments. I wish someone had told me to set personal deadlines earlier than the official ones, especially before tests and the final exam. Take detailed notes, complete the practice questions, and ask your teacher for help when needed. If you stay organized and motivated, you can do very well.

(5) School Leadership

My interactions with the administration at Ontario Virtual School were limited because I did not experience any major problems during my course. However, the school appeared organized, professional, and respectful toward students. Course expectations, deadlines, and academic policies were communicated clearly, which gave me confidence in the school’s leadership. When I needed information, the instructions and available support made it easy to understand what to do next. I cannot comment much on discipline issues or the experiences of other students, but I personally felt supported and treated fairly. Prospective families should still review course policies carefully and contact the administration directly if they have questions before enrolling.

I was very happy with the quality of teaching I received while completing Grade 12 Chemistry (SCH4U) at Ontario Virtual School. The video lessons explained the course material clearly, and I could pause, replay, and review difficult concepts whenever needed. This was especially helpful for calculation-heavy topics and more challenging units. The course provided a good balance of explanations, examples, textbook material, and practice questions. Communication between my teacher and me was professional and respectful. The feedback I received on assignments and assessments was constructive and helped me understand where I had lost marks and how I could improve. The course challenged me to work independently, manage my time, and take responsibility for asking for help when necessary. Although online learning requires more self-motivation than a traditional classroom, the instruction and resources helped me stay engaged and successfully complete SCH4U with a 95%. Prospective students should review feedback carefully and use all the practice materials provided.

The academic program at Ontario Virtual School was flexible but still appropriately challenging. I completed Grade 12 Chemistry (SCH4U), and the course covered the required material through video lessons, readings, practice questions, assignments, tests, and a final exam. One of its greatest strengths was allowing students to spend more time on difficult concepts and move more quickly through material they already understood. The course also encouraged independence, organization, and time management. Because the course was online and mostly self-paced, I had limited interaction with other students, so I cannot accurately describe whether the student body was competitive or collaborative. This can also be a weakness for students who prefer regular classroom discussions or direct interaction with classmates. However, I felt academically supported through the learning resources and teacher feedback. Completing the course with a 95% increased my confidence in chemistry and prepared me for future university-level science courses by strengthening my study habits, problem-solving skills, and ability to learn independently.

(5) School Life

Student life at Ontario Virtual School is different from the experience of attending a traditional in-person school. Since I completed Grade 12 Chemistry online and at my own pace, I had limited interaction with other OVS students and cannot accurately comment on whether they generally felt happy, stressed, or engaged. For me, the flexibility improved my quality of life because I could balance the course with regular school, work, volunteering, and extracurricular activities. I also appreciated being able to study at the times that worked best for my schedule. However, the independent format could sometimes feel isolating, especially when working through difficult material. OVS could improve student life by offering more optional live review sessions, virtual study groups, or opportunities for students taking the same course to connect. Overall, the experience worked well for me because I am an independent learner, but students who prefer frequent social interaction may find the online environment less engaging.

(4.5) Admissions

The registration process was straightforward and much less stressful than a traditional school admissions process. The course information, prerequisites, expectations, and payment details were presented clearly, so I understood what I was enrolling in. My advice is to confirm that you have the correct prerequisite, review the course outline, and consider whether you can stay motivated in a self-paced environment. It is also helpful to ask questions before registering if you are uncertain about deadlines, transcript reporting, or course requirements. Overall, I found the process organized and accessible, and I was able to begin my course without unnecessary difficulty.
