(5) Overall Experience

Overall, I loved my experience at Ontario Virtual School. Thinking back on my time at OVS, what stands out to me is how fast my teacher, Mr. Doyle, would reply to any inquiries I had about assignments, and how fast he would grade all my work. This was great for me since I was able to know where I was in the course at all times. Also, I really appreciate how helpful he was in his replies when replying to my emails. He cleared up anything I needed clarification on, which made it very easy for me to complete my work. What I liked best about OVS was the fact that the guidelines, instructions, and rubrics on assignments were incredibly detailed, and most of it came with examples, so I had a structure to follow. As somebody who is used to direct step-by-step instructions, this helped ease any anxiety I had while doing my assignments. I feel like this school prepared me for my life’s next steps because it was my first time doing a course in high school online, and now I’ll know what to expect if I ever do a course in university online. For any students who come across this, if you join OVS, expect to have a great teacher, clear instructions on your assignments, fast marking, and helpful replies to your clarification questions!

Looking Back

What stood out to me the most was how fast my teacher, Mr. Doyle, was at marking and replying to my clarification questions. It made my journey in the course flow much more smoothly. Another thing that stood out was how detailed the instructions on assignments were. It helped me know exactly what I needed to do and even included examples, which helped tremendously.

Current Perspective

A strength that I noticed with OVS is that they’re very punctual. When they say that you will receive a response and your work back in less than 48 hours, they mean it. Through OVS, a strength I noticed in myself is that I am able to work independently pretty well. I realized this through the assignments and discussion boards.

Your Advice

My piece of advice for anyone considering this school is not to stress out. It seems scary since you have to make your own schedules for everything and there are no set due dates, but it is actually less stressful this way since you’re in no rush. Also, I would definitely find out who is going to be your proctor for your final exam in advance. Thankfully, I found somebody who could be my proctor, but it might be difficult if you don’t have anybody and didn’t think to find one in advance. I wish somebody had told me about finding a proctor in advance, but that is the only thing I wish someone had told me before I enrolled.
