(5) Student Experience

I had a really good experience with Ontario Virtual School. The course was well-organized, and I liked that I could work at my own pace, which made it easier to balance school with other commitments. The teacher was helpful and marked things quickly, and the practice tests really helped me feel confident for the final exam. One thing I wish I knew before starting was how important time management would be. Since it’s all self paced, you really have to stay on top of things yourself. If I could change one thing, I’d suggest adding weekly reminders or a recommended schedule to help students stay on track. Overall, I’d definitely recommend OVS for anyone looking to upgrade a course or fit learning into a busy schedule.

(5) School Leadership

Yes, I definitely respect the school leaders and teachers at Ontario Virtual School. My teacher was quick to respond to emails and provided helpful feedback on assignments, which made a big difference in my learning. I also found the admin team and student support really helpful especially when I had questions about my final mark being sent to OUAC. They were clear and fast in their communication. One thing they do really well is making the whole process from registration to final evaluation smooth and easy to understand. If there’s anything I wish they would do more of, it would be to check in with students during the course or send occasional reminders, especially since everything is self-paced. But overall, the support from the school was great.

(5) Teaching

I think the teachers at Ontario Virtual School have a good balance they don’t ask too much, but they also expect you to take responsibility for your own learning. I always felt like I knew what was expected of me because the lessons and assignment instructions were clear. The rubrics helped too, so I knew how things would be marked when doing an assignment or test. When teachers talk about success, I think they mean doing your best, understanding the material, and being able to apply what you’ve learned. It’s not just about getting a good grade, but also about learning how to manage your time, work independently, and be self motivated. Overall, I felt supported and knew what I needed to do to succeed in the course.

(5) Academics

The academic workload at Ontario Virtual School felt well-balanced. It wasn’t too easy, but it also wasn’t overwhelming. The course I took—Grade 12 Physics—definitely required effort, but the structure of the lessons, clear explanations, and availability of practice tests made it manageable. Everything was broken down into smaller parts, which helped me stay on track and understand the material better. I always knew what was expected because the course was clearly laid out with consistent instructions and rubrics for assignments and tests. I believe the knowledge and skills I gained will be helpful in the future. Even if I don’t use physics directly, I’ve learned how to manage my time, work independently, and stay organized. These habits will definitely help me in university and any career I choose to pursue.

(5) School Life

Since Ontario Virtual School is fully online, school life is very different from a traditional school. There are no hallways, classrooms, or lockers—but in a way, everything is centered around the student dashboard. If I were giving a tour, I’d start by showing how the dashboard works. That’s where students can access lessons, track their progress, communicate with teachers, and view grades. It’s easy to use and keeps everything in one place. One of the benefits of OVS is the flexibility it gives. I was able to build my own schedule and work at my own pace, which made it easier to balance school with other responsibilities. There’s no school spirit in the traditional sense, but the independence, support from staff, and clear structure all make the school life feel focused and student-friendly.

(5) Admissions

The admissions process at Ontario Virtual School was really simple and stress-free. I just had to fill out a form online, select the course I wanted, and make the payment. After that, I got access to the course within a day or so. There weren’t any complicated steps, and everything was clearly explained on the website. For anyone thinking about applying, my advice would be to double-check that you have all the information you need from your home school if you’re planning to use the course for graduation or university applications. At the time, I didn’t realize how fast everything would move—so be ready to start right away once you sign up! Overall, the process was smooth and straightforward, and definitely not stressful.
