(5) Student Experience
Taking Calculus online with Ontario Virtual School has been an amazing experience. The course was incredibly well organized, with clear lessons, helpful examples, and layouts that made learning easy and enjoyable. I loved being able to work at my own pace, giving me the freedom to learn on my own schedule and truly retain the information. The videos and practice questions made even the most challenging topics feel manageable, and I felt supported every step of the way. What stood out the most was how accessible and easy to follow the content was. The platform was user-friendly, and everything I needed was always just a click away. I’m really glad I chose to take this course through OVS. It made learning Calculus a genuinely rewarding and positive experience.
(5) School Leadership
I have a lot of respect for the staff at Ontario Virtual School, especially the teachers and guidance counsellors. They are supportive and very responsive. One thing I truly appreciated was how quickly my Calculus teacher replied to emails, usually within 24 hours, and how quickly they returned assignments with clear, helpful feedback. It made the learning process smoother and kept me motivated. The guidance staff also made things easy to understand when I had questions about my course or OUAC. Overall, the school leadership does a great job supporting students in an online environment.
(5) Teaching
I think the teachers at Ontario Virtual School have reasonable expectations. They don’t ask too much or too little, they provide a balanced workload that allows us to fully understand the material without feeling overwhelmed. In my Calculus course, I always felt that the expectations were clear. The course was well-organized, and each assignment included detailed instructions and grading criteria. When teachers talk about success, I believe they mean more than just getting high marks. They want us to truly understand the content, apply it with confidence, and take responsibility for our learning. Success at OVS means being independent, disciplined, and willing to reach out when you need help. I think their goal is to help students become confident, capable learners beyond the course itself.
(5) Academics
I found the work in my Calculus course at Ontario Virtual School to be challenging in a good way. It wasn’t too easy, but it also wasn’t overwhelming. The lessons were clear and built up gradually, allowing me to understand each concept before moving on. I felt supported through videos, examples, and fast feedback from my teacher, which made difficult topics easier to manage. I do believe what I’m learning will be useful later in life, especially as someone considering a career in a STEM field. Calculus helps develop problem-solving skills, logical thinking, and persistence, all of which are valuable in university and beyond. Even if I don’t use every formula directly, the mindset it builds will help me tackle complex challenges in the future, especially optimization.
(5) School Life
Since OVS is an online school, students learn from wherever they feel most comfortable and focused. I would highlight useful online tools such as the student portal, where I access course content, submit work, and communicate with teachers. This would show how OVS supports independent learning and allows students to create personalized, supportive environments that help them succeed academically.
(5) Admissions
The OVS admissions process was simple and stress-free. I registered online by filling out a short form and selecting my course. Within a day, I received login details and was ready to begin. My advice to new students is to check course prerequisites and ensure they’re prepared for independent learning. I found the process smooth and even a bit exciting. I didn’t realize how flexible OVS would be. I now appreciate how it allows me to work at my own pace.
