(5) Student Experience

Taking the Grade 12 Calculus and Vectors course (MCV4U-19) with Ontario Virtual School was a great experience. The best part was the flexibility it offered. I was able to work at my own pace, review lessons when I needed to, and complete tests at times that were most convenient for me. This made it much easier to manage my schedule compared to a regular day school. I chose to take the course at OVS instead of through my regular school because of this flexibility. It allowed me to focus more effectively on my learning without the pressure of strict deadlines. My teacher was very supportive throughout the course. They answered all of my questions clearly, marked assignments and tests fairly, and always provided feedback in a timely manner. The comments after each test helped me understand what I did well and where I could improve. I also made good use of the practice tests and online resources. The extra practice questions were especially helpful and gave me the confidence I needed to feel prepared for each evaluation. Overall, the staff at OVS were professional, helpful, and committed to student success. I had a very positive experience and would definitely recommend OVS to other students looking for a flexible and supportive learning environment.

(5) School Leadership

Although I haven’t been in direct contact with anyone at the school besides my teachers, I still have a lot of respect for the leadership at Ontario Virtual School. Anytime I needed support, whether it was submitting documents or getting help with something administrative, my requests were handled quickly and efficiently. That shows the school is well-organized and committed to helping students succeed. From my experience, the teachers were responsive, fair, and supportive, which reflects positively on the school as a whole. While I didn’t interact personally with the headmaster or guidance counsellors, everything I needed was taken care of without delay. I don’t feel that anything was lacking, but it might be helpful in the future to have more outreach or check-ins from guidance, just to make sure students are doing well overall.

(5) Teaching

I think the teachers at Ontario Virtual School had fair expectations throughout the course. I never felt that they were asking too much or too little. The instructions for each assignment and test were clear, so I always understood what was expected of me. What I appreciated most was that they didn’t just focus on the final answer. They gave fair marks based on the steps I showed and the effort I put into solving each problem. This approach made the grading feel more balanced and gave me the chance to show my understanding, even if I made a small mistake. Overall, the tests felt justified, and so did the marks I received. I believe that when my teachers talked about success, they meant not just getting the right answer, but showing a strong understanding of the process and steadily improving throughout the course.

(5) Academics

I found the work in the course to be just right. It was challenging enough to push me to think critically and fully understand the material, but not overwhelming. The balance helped me stay motivated and confident throughout the course. I definitely believe what I learned will be useful to me later in life. The course has given me a strong foundation in calculus and vectors, which will be important as I move on to university. Beyond just the content, the course also helped me develop problem-solving skills and the ability to explain my thinking clearly. These are skills that will be valuable in any academic setting. I'm confident that the knowledge and habits I built in this course will support my success in future studies and beyond.

(5) School Life

Since Ontario Virtual School is an online learning environment rather than a physical school, I would start the tour by showing visitors the OVS website. The website is thoughtfully designed to be clear and easy to navigate, so students always know exactly where to go for anything they need. Whether it is accessing course materials, contacting a teacher, submitting assignments, or reviewing grades, everything is organized and accessible. I would also highlight how each course begins with a welcoming and well-structured introduction that helps guide students through the platform and sets clear expectations for success. This makes it easy to get started and feel supported from day one. Overall, the website and course design work together to create a positive, supportive, and effective learning experience for all students at OVS.

(5) Admissions

The admissions process at Ontario Virtual School was very easy and straightforward. I found it fun because everything worked smoothly and in a timely manner, which helped reduce any stress. From filling out the application to receiving confirmation, the steps were clear and well-organized. My advice to anyone applying would be to gather all necessary documents beforehand and follow the instructions carefully. Looking back, I didn’t realize how efficient the process would be, and knowing that now would definitely make applying even less stressful.
