(5) Student Experience

I took Calculus and Vectors with OVS, and it was a positive and smooth experience overall. I was looking to take a course over the summer, but spots had filled up at my public school, so I connected with OVS, and they were able to get me started right away. The website was very well organized, and I was able to locate lessons, extra resources and unit tests with ease. The lessons were clear and engaging, and my teacher was highly responsive when it came to replying to my emails and returning evaluations within 48 hours. When it came time to upload my grade to OUAC, I faced a small issue, but once I reached out to them, they responded and were able to fix it within hours of me raising the concern. Taking a course with OVS has been nothing but a pleasant experience, and I would recommend it to anyone who is looking to take an online course.

(5) School Leadership

The school leadership at OVS, including the administration, guidance counsellors, and teachers, is excellent. I’ve found them to be professional, responsive, and genuinely supportive of students. They work hard to make sure the learning experience is smooth, from course setup to grade submission. I particularly appreciate their quick response times because when I had an issue with my OUAC grade upload, they addressed it within hours. They do a great job of making communication easy and accessible. If anything, I’d love to see them add more check-ins with students to see how we’re progressing, but overall, they are approachable and reliable.

(5) Teaching

The teaching at OVS is nothing short of excellent. Teachers provide clear expectations from the start, and I always knew what was required for each lesson, assignment, and test. Success here is about understanding the material and being able to apply it independently, which are skills that matter far beyond the final grade. My Calculus and Vectors teacher was both encouraging and efficient, returning graded work within 48 hours and answering questions quickly. The lessons were detailed yet easy to follow, with extra resources available if I wanted more practice. Every evaluation that was returned clearly detailed what I did well, what I needed to improve and what I can do for next steps to perform even better on the next evaluation. I felt that the teachers were encouraging and supportive every step of the way.

(5) Academics

Academically, OVS delivers strong, well-structured courses that are neither too easy nor unnecessarily difficult. In my case, Calculus and Vectors provided me with a challenge that kept me engaged while still being manageable with consistent effort. The course materials were thoughtfully organized, and the pacing allowed me to work efficiently without feeling rushed. I definitely see the long-term value of the skills that I learned. Some examples are math skills, problem-solving, and time management, which are all transferable to university and beyond. Because OVS is online, it also teaches you self-discipline and independent study habits, which I think are just as valuable as the course content itself. I believe the academic standard is high, and the structure sets students up for success in future education.

(5) School Life

OVS is an online school, so this question is not applicable. Since OVS is an online school, school life doesn’t apply in the same way. There’s no physical campus, so giving a tour wouldn’t make sense. However, if I were introducing a new student to the platform, I would start with the course homepage, where lessons, resources, and tests are laid out clearly. I’d then show them how to contact teachers, access grades, and find extra materials for practice. While there’s no in-person community, the simplicity and organization of the platform create a smooth learning experience. I think a potential enhancement could be optional online forums or group study spaces for students to connect, but for independent learners like myself, the current setup is ideal.

(5) Admissions

The admissions process at OVS was quick, straightforward, and stress-free. I was able to sign up for a course almost immediately after reaching out, which was important because my public school had no summer school spots available. The registration form was easy to complete, and I received clear instructions on how to get started. Payment and account setup were both smooth, and I was in my course within a day. Looking back, I wish I had known how flexible the start dates were, as I could have planned my timeline even better. Overall, the process was much easier and faster than I expected.
