(4.5) Student Experience
Ontario Virtual School is an online private high school that allows students to earn Ontario Secondary School Diploma credits through flexible, self-paced courses. The school offers a wide range of Grade 9 to 12 courses that follow the Ontario curriculum and are taught by certified teachers. Students can complete lessons, assignments, tests, and exams online, making it a useful option for those who need a more flexible schedule or want to take courses that are not available at their regular school. Ontario Virtual School can also help students upgrade marks, complete prerequisites, or earn additional credits for university or college applications. Although online learning requires independence, organization, and time management, it can provide students with a convenient and accessible way to continue their education successfully. It was a good experience!
The Best Part
The best part about Ontario Virtual School is the flexibility. I can work through the course at my own pace and organize my schoolwork around my schedule. I also like being able to review lessons again when I do not understand something instead of having to keep up with the pace of a regular classroom.
Suggested Improvements
One thing I would improve is the amount of interaction with teachers and other students. Since the courses are online and mostly independent, it can sometimes feel less engaging than being in a classroom. More opportunities for live help sessions, discussions, or teacher feedback would make the learning experience more interactive.
Hidden Details
Something new students may not realize is how much self-discipline online learning requires. The flexibility is helpful, but there is no regular classroom schedule reminding you to complete your work. Students need to manage their own time, stay organized, and avoid falling behind, especially when they are taking the course alongside regular school.
(4.5) School Leadership
Since Ontario Virtual School is online, I have not had much direct interaction with the principal or guidance counsellors. However, the school seems well organized, and information is communicated clearly. I would like to see even more opportunities for students to connect directly with guidance staff when planning courses or preparing for university.
(N/A) Teaching
The teachers are knowledgeable and provide clear instructions for completing assignments and assessments. I like that I can contact my teacher when I have questions and receive help when needed. Since the course is online, I think more live teaching sessions or opportunities to ask questions in real time would make the experience even better.
(N/A) Academics
The academic content follows the Ontario curriculum and the course material is organized in a way that is easy to follow. I like being able to work at my own pace and review lessons when necessary. The courses are useful for earning credits, completing prerequisites, or improving marks for future university or college applications.
(N/A) School Life
Ontario Virtual School is very different from a traditional high school because most of the learning is independent. If I were describing it to another student, I would say that the flexibility is a major advantage, but there is much less social interaction and fewer school activities than you would experience at an in-person school.
(N/A) Admissions
The admissions and registration process is straightforward because everything can be completed online. Choosing a course, registering, and getting access to the course material is relatively simple. I would recommend carefully checking prerequisites and university requirements before enrolling so that you know the course will meet your academic goals.
