(4) Student Experience
I had a really positive experience taking Calculus through Ontario Virtual School. The flexibility of e-learning made it much easier for me to manage my time and complete the course at my own pace while still having access to the support I needed. I really enjoyed the video format of the lessons because the concepts were explained clearly, and I could go back and rewatch lessons whenever I needed extra clarification. The textbooks and workbooks were also helpful for practicing the material and preparing for tests and the final exam. One of the things I appreciated most was the amount of support available. Having access to free 1:1 live tutoring seven days a week was especially helpful for Calculus, since there were certain concepts that took extra practice to understand. It was reassuring to know that help was always available when I needed it. My teacher, Ms. Milburn, was also a great part of my experience. She was helpful and supportive throughout the course, and I appreciated her feedback and guidance as I worked through the material. I also liked being able to keep track of my progress and see how I was doing throughout the course. Overall, OVS provided me with the flexibility, resources, and support I needed to successfully complete Calculus. I would definitely recommend OVS to students who want a flexible online learning experience without feeling like they have to figure everything out on their own.
The Best Part
I’d say the best part is the flexibility and support, because that’s what makes OVS stand out. You can work at your own pace, but you’re not left alone when you’re stuck.
Suggested Improvements
One improvement I would suggest is having slightly faster marking turnaround times, especially when students are working toward a university deadline. Having more frequent updates on when assessments are expected to be marked would also help students plan their schedules and feel less anxious about their timelines, and replying to emails faster would help.
Hidden Details
What might surprise a new student is how much support is available even though the school is fully online. Before enrolling, I expected to have to figure out most things on my own, but there are many resources available, including teacher support and free 1:1 live tutoring seven days a week. I was also surprised by how flexible the course was and how much control I had over my own learning schedule.
