(5) Student Experience

Taking MHF4U through OVS was honestly one of the best learning experiences I have had. I really enjoyed the flexibility of being able to work through the course at my own pace while still having access to clear lessons and helpful resources. At first, I was nervous about taking Advanced Functions online because I knew the material would be challenging. However, as I progressed through each unit, I became much more confident in my math skills. I especially enjoyed learning about polynomial functions, trigonometry, exponential and logarithmic functions, and transformations. I liked being able to go back and review lessons whenever I needed extra practice. OVS helped me become more independent, organized, and responsible with my learning. Overall, I genuinely loved taking MHF4U through OVS and would definitely recommend it to other students.

The Best Part

The best part about being in OVS is the flexibility. I loved being able to work at my own pace and plan my schedule around my other classes and responsibilities. Taking MHF4U through OVS also made me more independent because I had to stay organized and manage my own deadlines.

Suggested Improvements

One thing I wish were different about OVS is having more opportunities for students to interact with teachers and other students. Although the online format is flexible and convenient, sometimes it can feel a little isolated. More optional live sessions or group activities could make the experience more engaging and help students feel more connected.

Hidden Details

Something that might surprise a new student is how much independence OVS requires. You have a lot of flexibility, but you also need to be responsible for managing your own time, staying organized, and keeping up with deadlines. I really enjoyed this because it helped me become more independent.

(5) School Leadership

I had a positive experience with the school leadership and felt that support was available when I needed it. I appreciated how organized the course and school systems were, especially when it came to understanding deadlines, assignments, and exams. I also liked that I could reach out when I had questions or needed clarification. One thing I would appreciate is even more opportunities for students to connect with teachers or receive additional guidance throughout the course. Overall, it was great!

(5) Teaching

I really enjoyed the teaching at OVS, especially while taking MHF4U. The lessons were clear, organized, and easy to follow, which made it much easier for me to understand new concepts. I liked that I could work through each lesson at my own pace and spend extra time on topics that I found challenging. If I did not understand something right away, I could go back, review the lesson, and practise until it made sense. I also appreciated having clear expectations for assignments, tests, and deadlines. The teaching style helped me become more confident in Advanced Functions, and I genuinely started to enjoy math more because of it. Overall, I found the teaching supportive, effective, and well-suited to my learning style throughout the course.

(5) Academics

I really enjoyed the academics at OVS, especially because I took MHF4U and genuinely loved the course. The work was challenging enough to keep me interested, but I also had enough time to practise and improve my understanding. I liked learning different topics throughout Advanced Functions and seeing how the concepts connected with each other. The flexibility of OVS allowed me to spend more time on topics I found difficult instead of feeling rushed to keep up with a class. I also found that completing the course independently helped me develop better problem-solving, organization, and time-management skills. Overall, I found the academic experience very rewarding. MHF4U helped me become more confident in math, and I enjoyed being able to see my progress as I worked through the course.

(5) School Life

If I were giving a tour of OVS to a group of visitors, I would first show them the online learning platform and explain how the courses are organized. Since OVS is different from a traditional school, I think it would be helpful for new students to see how lessons, assignments, tests, and communication with teachers work. I would also explain the flexibility that OVS offers and how students can create a schedule that works best for them. For me, this flexibility was one of the best parts of taking MHF4U because I could manage my time while still staying on top of my work. I would also mention how independent learning can help students become more organized, responsible, and confident in their abilities.

(5) Admissions

The admissions process was straightforward and easy to understand. I found it simple to choose my course, submit the required information, and get started. The process was not too complicated, but I would recommend making sure you understand the course requirements and have a plan for when you want to complete the course. My experience was very positive overall, and I liked how quickly I could get started. I would also recommend staying organized from the beginning and keeping track of deadlines.
