(4.5) Student Experience
My experience with Ontario Virtual School has been really positive. I liked having the flexibility to work through the course on my own schedule while still having clear lessons, assignments, and deadlines to follow. The course content was organized well, and I always knew what I needed to complete next. I also had a really good experience with my teacher. Whenever I had a question or needed clarification, I was able to get help, and the feedback I received on assignments helped me understand what I could improve. I also liked being able to see my progress and marks throughout the course because it helped me stay motivated. One thing I wish I knew before starting was how important it is to manage your own time and stay on top of the work since you have more independence than in a regular classroom. Overall, I would definitely recommend OVS to students who are organized and want flexibility.
The Best Part
The best part about OVS is the flexibility. I could complete my work around my own schedule and move through the course at a pace that worked well for me. I also really appreciated the feedback and support from my teacher.
Suggested Improvements
One improvement I would suggest is making it easier to know approximately how long each lesson or assignment will take. This would make planning your week and managing your workload even easier.
Hidden Details
Something that might surprise a new student is how independent the courses are. You have a lot of freedom to decide when you complete your work, but you also have to stay organized and manage your time well.
(4) School Leadership
I have had a positive experience with the leadership and staff at Ontario Virtual School. Whenever I needed help or had a question, I was able to get an answer and understand what I needed to do next. I also appreciated that communication was clear throughout the course. I think they do a good job of supporting students while still allowing us to work independently. I would like to see even more opportunities to communicate directly with teachers when needed.
(4.5) Teaching
I had a really good experience with the teaching at Ontario Virtual School. I felt like the expectations for assignments and tests were clear, and I usually knew exactly what I needed to do to be successful. I especially appreciated the feedback I received on my assignments because it helped me understand what I did well and what I could improve on for the next one. The workload was manageable, especially because I was able to work at my own pace and plan around my schedule. I think success at OVS means being responsible for your own learning, staying organized, completing your work on time, and actually using the feedback your teacher gives you. Overall, I felt supported while still having a lot of independence.
(4) Academics
I found the academic work at Ontario Virtual School to be a good level of difficulty. It was challenging enough that I had to put effort into my assignments, but I never felt like the work was impossible or unreasonable. I also liked being able to move through the lessons at my own pace because I could spend more time on topics that I found difficult and move faster through topics I understood. A lot of what I learned in my Food and Nutrition course felt useful outside of school, especially learning about nutrition, food choices, food insecurity, and different diets. Overall, I think the course taught me information that I will actually be able to use in everyday life.
(3.5) School Life
Since Ontario Virtual School is completely online, school life is obviously different from attending an in-person school. If I were giving someone a tour, I would first show them how the online course platform works and how the lessons, assignments, grades, and course information are organized. I found the platform easy to understand once I started using it, and I liked being able to access my course whenever it worked best for me. I would also show them how assignments are submitted and where teacher feedback and marks can be found. The biggest advantage for me was the flexibility because I could organize my schoolwork around my own schedule while still completing a full high school credit.
(5) Admissions
The admissions and registration process for Ontario Virtual School was pretty straightforward and easy to understand. I did not find the process very stressful because the steps were clearly explained, and I was able to get started with my course quickly. My advice to someone applying would be to make sure you choose the right course and understand how the self-paced format works before starting. I now know that taking an online course requires you to manage your own time and stay motivated because you have more control over when you complete your work. Overall, the process was simple, and I had a positive experience.
