School leadership is exemplary. The Acting Headmaster is kind, and engaged, and well loved by the students. The Senior School Interim Director is fair, and easily accessible to the students. The house parents are kind and fair, and also quite fun. They make it so that the students' home away from home is as comfortable as possible. We have, fortunately, not have had to be involved in discipline issues first hand. However, as with any population of students, there are always a few situations that do require immediate action. As far as we can see, any situations are dealt with quickly, fairly. One suggestion I would have is that the school newsletter have a monthly or bimonthly update from the Directors and Headmaster.
Our experience has been outstanding with school leadership and administration. We cannot say enough about how we as parents, and our son has been treated. The Director of Admissions, the Marketing Director, the program leaders and of course the Head of School have all made direct and personal connections with both us and more importantly our son. We feel like he has the direct and personal attention of everyone from the Head of School down and for that we could not feel better. Most important to us as parents is the leadership example that is being set. The school focuses on teaching leadership to its students, and therefore it is vital that its leaders walk the talk. From everything we have seen and experienced, SMUS leadership is a shining leadership example.
The teachers and administration at SMUS really go above and beyond when it comes to the student body and the school environment. As parents, we’ve been able to form close relationships both with some house parents and other members of the administration. They’ve always kept us aware of the goings on at the school and with our children through various sources, for example, the respective house blogs. As far as we know, any issues that arose with the students were handled effectively and fairly. For a school that prides itself on instilling leadership in their students, it’s no wonder that the leadership at the school is exceptional and commendable.
