Highlights from the interview

  • My biggest outlook when I was looking at a school was a strong sense of academics and a supportive community, just because every child has their individual needs and wants… We did look at almost every school that I could think of, and we chose Sunnybrook because it completely fit with my needs that I wanted for my first one.

  • Both my children really appreciated the sense of community because they fit in from the first day. They fell in love with the school. There was not a day they woke up and said, "I don't want to go to this school.

  • They follow these IB profile words, which are shown in every aspect of their learning. So, inquirers, knowledgeable, caring, risk-takers, you see that element in almost everything.

  • One thing I have noticed with the teachers is the sense of communication… There were issues that I needed to address, and I emailed, and I don't think there was even one incident I can recall where I was like not heard, not seen, and not acknowledged.

  • There are a lot of extracurricular activities at school. They engage in a lot of things, and then there are after-school clubs that your child is given the opportunity to participate in.

  • It's definitely a smaller school in comparison to other schools that parents might be aware of. However, that worked for us. Despite the space aspect of it, they are not missing out on anything.

  • I think one of the first things we noticed was how welcoming the school is, you know, how open they are.

  • One of the things I find parents need to look at is both the strengths and weaknesses of a school. And I think one of the most important things that I suggest a parent needs to do, in my opinion, is get in touch with the parents of that school.
