- Name
Hilda Tang - Child 1
SK - Gr. 6 (Female, Day Student)
Hilda, a parent at Sunnybrook School, shared her perspective on value, supportive teachers, strong IB curriculum, small community feel, and how the environment helped her daughter thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.
Highlights from the interview
She really loved the small community feel at Sunnybrook School. She enjoyed interacting with kids from different grades, from JK and SK all the way to the higher grades up to grade six during her time there.
I think she generally liked the International Baccalaureate curriculum because it was very well-rounded. It allowed her to take different learning approaches and explore different topics in different ways. She really loved the programming and the community there.
She really loved both in-class and outside-of-class activities. She also enjoyed all the clubs and sports activities, extracurriculars such as choir and singing, and some sports like track and field and cross-country running.
As a parent, I appreciated the teachers, the curriculum they offer, and the easy access to teachers. If there was something I needed to speak with them about, it was very easy to communicate, make an appointment, either in person or via Zoom.
Because it was a smaller school, the background and values of the students and the parents were quite similar. That allowed my daughter to make friends easily, and she didn’t encounter conflicts with other kids, which I appreciated.
She’s very proud of her academic achievements.
The experience has been very good. Access to one-on-one interactions is very easy, whether through teachers, the principal, or the vice-principal.
Given that it is an investment for most parents when choosing a private school, I do find Sunnybrook a better value compared to other schools. Having lunch included in the tuition, and the tuition being relatively lower than other schools, was important. Plus, factoring in that it's an International Baccalaureate program, that was really key for me.
I think choosing a school is about understanding the needs of the child, what they are most interested in.
