The big picture on Vaughan College Private School

We summarized the school ourselves

Vaughan College was founded in 2009 in order to provide a vibrant, robust preparation for success in post-secondary studies. The core academics are key, as they should be, though so is an attention to facility in their application, within specific disciplines, and as applied across the curriculum. The student body is smaller than the mean, allowing a very close-knit learning environment with a high level of teacher-student engagement. The atmosphere itself is a draw, one in which social currency is gained in part through academic achievement—all students arrive academically oriented, and therefore enter a community of learners that are all of a like mind. The program seeks to develop values as well as a global perspective, which is also a draw. The ideal student is one able to thrive in a challenging learning environment, and able to grow into a sense of responsibility for their learning.

We questioned the school administration

1. Who are you, as a school?

"Vaughan College is a distinguished Ministry-inspected private high school in Woodbridge, Vaughan, Ontario, Canada. We provide a supportive learning environment, a highly structured curriculum, strong academic standards, and flexible scheduling that empower every student to reach their full potential. We serve full-time, part-time, and international students from Woodbridge, Brampton, and surrounding communities. We also offer Night School, Summer School, and in-person, private, and online classes."

2. What do you do differently and uniquely well?

Vaughan College offers a more individualized and supportive approach to secondary education than traditional school settings. Instead of a fixed, one-size-fits-all model, we meet students where they are academically and help them progress at a pace that builds strong understanding and confidence.
We provide small class sizes, direct teacher support, and flexible course options including in-person, live online instruction, night school, and summer credit courses. This flexibility allows students to complete Ontario credit requirements in a way that fits their schedules while maintaining structure and accountability.
Instruction emphasizes clear explanations, regular feedback, and ongoing assessment so learning gaps are identified and addressed early. Teachers work closely with students to strengthen core academic skills and ensure steady progress.
This approach leads to strong academic performance, a high university acceptance rate, and prepares students for post-secondary education.

3. What tradeoffs has your school made to serve families in this way?

Vaughan College has made intentional tradeoffs to remain focused on strong academic outcomes, personalized learning, and clear pathways to post-secondary success.

We prioritize personalization over standardization. Instead of a single fixed pace for all students, instruction is adapted to individual needs. This provides more targeted support and flexibility, but results in a less traditional, uniform classroom structure.

We also prioritize academics over extensive extracurricular programming. By focusing our resources on Ontario credit courses, flexible scheduling, and direct teacher support, we maintain strong academic results and a high university acceptance rate. The tradeoff is that we do not operate as a full-service school with broad sports, arts, or club offerings.

In addition, we emphasize structured academic guidance over fully self-directed learning. Students benefit from close teacher involvement, regular feedback, and clear expectations, which helps them stay on track,

4. What key junctures in your school's history have most shaped its present?

Vaughan College, founded in 2009 by experienced educators, was built on small classes, individualized instruction, and OSSD/university preparation—principles that still define it today.

A major milestone was expanding into flexible programming (day, night, summer, and online credits), creating an adaptable system for credit recovery, acceleration, and personalized pathways.

A third milestone was expanding academic programming into enriched and specialized streams, including STEM/BTM-focused learning, AP preparation, and Cambridge IGCSE/A-Level options, strengthening academic depth and global readiness.

A defining recent moment was a student winning the Stephen Leacock Student Humorous Short Story Competition for “Fries Are Not ‘French’”, highlighting strong writing, creativity, and external recognition.

Together, these milestones shape Vaughan College today as a flexible, student-centred school focused on individualized learning and achievement beyond the classroom.

Gr. 12 — Thanks to Vaughan College for helping me in my academic journey. As an average student with modest grades, I hesitated about attending a private school. However, Vaughan College proved to be the right choice. The dedicated teachers and small class sizes allowed for personalized attention, helping me bridge the gaps in my understanding. One of the most significant benefits was the school's focus on test preparation. The staff truly cares about their students, going above and beyond to ensure our success. Through individualized guidance, I was able to overcome my test-taking anxiety and significantly improve my scores. This boost in confidence carried over to other areas of my academic life, leading to higher grades and a newfound passion for learning.
