    Accelerated
The main curriculum accelerates beyond the pace of the provincial one; ALL students do the work of OLDER public-school peers in tangible and measurable ways. This accelerated pace is maintained by the teachers and school, (through textbook selection, topic selection, grading, assignment standards and expectations, etc).

    Academic culture

    N/A

    Supportive
A school with a “supportive” academic culture focuses more on process than short-term outcomes: academic performance is a welcomed side-benefit, but not the driving focus. This does not mean the school lacks standards, or has low expectations for its students: a school can have a supportive academic culture and still light the fire of ambition in its students. It does mean, however, the school provides a less intensive culture than schools with a “rigorous” academic classification, and is focused more simply on instilling a love of learning and life-long curiosity.

What does school_name do differently or uniquely well?

What do you do differently and uniquely well?

    MCDONALD INTERNATIONAL ACADEMY

"MIA is committed to treating every student as an individual, not a number. We take the time to understand their strengths, challenges, and goals. Our teachers and staff offer personalized attention, regular check-ins with parents, and tailored academic support to ensure every student grows confidently - academically, emotionally, and socially. Supporting students beyond the classroom has meant taking on additional responsibilities than those of a typical school. However, we embrace this role because we want every learner to feel safe, understood, and at home.

Over the years, we have welcomed many local students seeking a more personalized education than that found at their public schools. At MIA, they find a home where teachers care about their learning and staff care about their well-being."

What tradeoffs has school_name made to serve families in this way?

What tradeoffs has your school made to serve families in this way?

    MCDONALD INTERNATIONAL ACADEMY

"To truly live our motto, “Your school, Your family,” we’ve chosen to keep our school community small and close-knit to put students first. We keep our class sizes smaller so every student is known personally by their teachers. Our guidance staff are always available to students and parents to discuss both personal and academic matters. Maintaining an open-door culture is important to us so that teachers and staff are always accessible to help when needed. These choices allow us to offer a learning experience that is warm, personal, and genuinely family-like."

What key junctures in school_name's history have most shaped its present?

What key junctures in your school's history have most shaped its present?

    MCDONALD INTERNATIONAL ACADEMY

"MIA has been at the forefront of educating international students since we began the school in 1994. We chose to keep class sizes small even as we grew, building a student-care model that treats every learner like family. Our school has always been located near the Yonge subway line to provide easy accessibility for our staff and students. In 2000, we moved to our current central downtown Toronto location near Yonge/Bloor and in 2008, we added residence facilities to provide better housing options for students. We are proud of the warm, supportive, student-centered environment we are known for today."

What type of student is a good fit for school_name?

What type of student is a good fit for your school?

    MCDONALD INTERNATIONAL ACADEMY

"We are an excellent fit for students who prefer small class sizes, appreciate individualized guidance, and want a school that feels like a family. Especially those studying far from home who need a caring, structured, and attentive community. Whether they’re focused on academic success, personal development, or preparing for university, students who seek both strong support and high expectations feel right at home here."

Under what conditions would you advise a family against choosing school_name?

Under what conditions would you advise a family against choosing your school?

    MCDONALD INTERNATIONAL ACADEMY

"Families who prefer a more hands-off approach, minimal communication with teachers, or a school culture that prioritizes size and scale over individualized attention may find that our family-style model isn’t what they’re looking for. We want every student to thrive - so choosing a school that aligns with their needs and preferences is essential."

To your knowledge, why do families choose school_name over others?

To your knowledge, why do families choose your school over others?

    MCDONALD INTERNATIONAL ACADEMY

"Over our 30 plus year history, many students have come to us through referral or word of mouth from previous students. They tell us often the care and attention we give to our students is what led them back to us. Parents feel confident that when their children are students at MIA that they are in safe hands.

In addition, families are drawn to our proven track record of helping students enter their top university or college choices. Our teachers and staff always provide the added support needed to help students succeed."

How would you characterize school_name's image amongst the public?

How would you characterize your school's image amongst the public?

    MCDONALD INTERNATIONAL ACADEMY

"Our school is known as a warm, supportive, and student-focused community that treats learners like family. The public sees us as a smaller, more personal alternative to large high schools - one that is especially caring toward international students and consistently committed to each student's success."

    MCDONALD INTERNATIONAL ACADEMY

"In recent years, our school has made several meaningful improvements to better support students and families. We've expanded our student-care services, strengthened academic advising, and enhanced communication with parents - especially for international families. We've also upgraded classroom technology and improved campus facilities with the addition of a new dedicated science lab room, student lounge and ping pong room. Each change reflects our ongoing commitment to providing a safer, more supportive, and more personal learning experience."

How will school_name change in the next 5 years?

How will your school change in the next 5 years?

    MCDONALD INTERNATIONAL ACADEMY

"Over the next five years, our school plans to grow while staying true to our family-style approach. We aim to expand programs that support both academic excellence and personal development, enhance our STEM programs, and increase opportunities for extracurricular engagement. We wish to incorporate more hands on learning for all classes, whether it be doing more experimental lab work or taking students on more related field trips. At the same time, we will continue keeping class sizes small to maintain strong, personal connections between students, teachers, and families. Our goal is to strengthen our community, prepare students for future success, and ensure every learner feels supported and valued."
