They don't just teach art, for example, they immerse students within it, including an on-site collection of works from an a-list of Canadian artists, including Tom Thomson, Kenojuak Ashevak, and Lawren Harris. The campus includes a forest, so the links between art and the environment are profound. Likewise, gardens and greenhouses provide an entrée to ecology and biology, and a design lab provides an entrée into technology and engineering. Those, and other examples, provide a unique balance between traditional learning and experiential learning. The buildings, the 27-acre campus, the proximity to Vancouver as well as a range of natural environments—all of it would rightly be the envy of any school. The ideal student is one who is curious, engaging, and prone to make use of the range of programs and opportunities that Meadowridge provides.

    LUTHER COLLEGE HIGH SCHOOL

    Luther College High School was established in 1913 as a boys’ boarding school, and with just 32 students that inaugural year. Girls were first admitted in 1920, and over the years there have been other changes, too. Today the population is predominantly day students, though there is still a sizable boarding program. Luther College has just completed a huge capital campaign focused on developing the school’s physical plan. Completed in 2015, it added over 40,000 square feet of space, including a new gymnasium, common spaces, and media labs. The curriculum is taught through a Christian lens, and annual events highlight the Lutheran tradition, including the candlelight services that mark Advent. The ideal student is one who can thrive in an active, diverse school community, and who is intending to proceed to post-secondary studies after graduation.

    Message

    Dr. Mark Anderson is the Principal, along with two other administrators, Vice Principal of Academics, Renee Wilkinson and Vice Principal of Student Life, Shawn Stieb.

    Often, we have people tour our school, thinking about investing in an education for their children. Such tours are conducted by our student ambassadors, and we often receive comments about how direct, polite, thoughtful, and friendly they are. Most parents want their children to be just like the students who conducted the tour. It is our best guide to how others see us: their delight in meeting our students.

    The students behave the way they do, of course, because families and the school share values, because we come to know each other, because we insist on similar things, because we stay involved with each other, and because virtually everyone here is noticed and is important. We are attached, all of us: old and young, students, teachers, parents, and staff, joined in the common cause of education that will make a difference to our children, and a difference to the world they will inherit and will lead.

    Our Mission Statement: Learning to live well, with others and for others, in a just community.

    We have a community of concern, and one that will help our children to grow into fine young adults.       The academic program emphasizes traditional core subjects while incorporating innovative approaches and modern programs. Luther College High School exceeds the curriculum established by the Government of Saskatchewan. In addition to the required courses, Luther students must take more math in Grade 9, a second English class in Grade 11 and a course in Christian Ethics for each year of enrollment. The Luther school year is made up of two semesters. Students are allowed to take a maximum of six courses per semester. At every grade level, there are certain compulsory courses students must pass. Students may also choose optional courses to fulfill the requirements for their Saskatchewan Grade 12 diploma. A dedicated teaching staff challenges students to excel and discover their gifts. Our well educated faculty only teaches in their major or minor disciplines, and most possess qualifications that far exceed standard requirements.

      At Meadowridge our Mission, "learning to live well, with others and for others, in a just community" is woven into our everyday actions and interactions, both at the school and in the community at large.         Traditional Math typically teaches a method or algorithm FIRST, and THEN teaches the applications for the method. Traditional algorithms are emphasized and practiced regularly: repetition and drills are frequently used to ensure foundational mastery in the underlying mathematical procedures. The traditional approach to math views math education as akin to building a logical edifice: each brick depends on the support of the previously laid ones, which represent mastery over a particular procedure or method. Traditional Math begins by giving students a tool, and then challenges students to practice using that tool an applied way, with progressively challenging problems. In this sense Traditional Math aims to establish procedural understanding before conceptual and applied understanding.

This takes place in a brand new, purpose built Early Childhood Education building. Children are active learners. In Junior Kindergarten and Kindergarten children learn by exploration and problem-solving in a safe environment. Students learn through play and units of inquiry based on the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme. This includes exploration into science, art, community, literacy, math, dance, athletics, technology, music, and more. Student develop skills through a hands-on activities where they can test, try, and engage.

      Our program challenges our students to find out more about their own beliefs, their own bodies, and society. When students graduate, they are equipped to deal with the complex realities of life, where critical thinking is at a premium. There are trained to question: how could this be better? In every unit of instruction, the children have a guiding question which they seek to answer. At the younger grades, the question is generated by the teacher, and smaller questions arise from the students. In older grades, we expect students to generate their own questions, and to personalize their learning.

    • Luther Invitational Tournament (LIT) LIT 68 is February 6 - 8, 2020 The Luther Invitational Tournament (LIT) is the longest running high school tournament in Canada. It began in 1953 on the initiative of John Chomay, the senior boys basketball coach and athletic director. LIT is a student-run tournament, lasting three days in February. This annual tournament is one of Luther's most well-known athletic initiatives and cherished traditions. This prestigious tournament is highly regarded for promoting sportsmanship, respect, hospitality and high-level competition. In 2016, LIT was inducted into the Regina Sports Hall of Fame. Teams from across western Canada are invited to participate each year.
