(5) Student Experience
Exceptional is the first thing we can say as a family about Lakefield College School. The "Outdoor Everyday" statement is of utmost importance in today's highly technology-driven world. Students experience water sports, camping and even learn about growing food, tapping for maple syrup and honey bees at Northcote Farm. The community building opportunities for both day and boarding students are above what was ever expected. Students come together as a family in their houses and school teams. They also come together to help locals in need at food banks, etc. Taking part in the Christmas parade and other local events. Both of our children have made great connections with students from all over the world and the LCS staff. The independence learned early on in their boarding experience has created responsible and mature young adults! The structure in the school days and evenings is much appreciated by both parents and students.
Why Lakefield College School?
There was no other option in our minds. We appreciated the location in a beautiful small town and the immediate welcoming family feeling we felt on campus.
Expectations vs. Reality
Lakefield College School has delivered 100% in our expectations so far. We hoped for a structured and caring environment for our children, and we got it. The students are held accountable for their studies and actions on campus.
Your Advice
Deciding to send a child away to a boarding school can be an extremely difficult decision. We cannot express enough how confident we are about our choice in Lakefield College School. It has been the best choice for our children's high school education and their future!
(4.5) School Leadership
The School leadership and administration seem to be an active part of each school day. The school definitely has a positive environment for students. I would say they handle discipline well, considering they have over 400 students. Some policies could be looked at per situation, but overall, we are happy.
(4.5) Teaching
In all categories of life, you will have those who outshine the rest. LCS is no different. With that said, it teaches the students to learn to deal with different personalities, which is 100% necessary in life!
(5) Academics
My children are learning a lot more than academics at LCS. Their ability to stay on task, stick to the routines in place, and do their own laundry is life-changing!
(5) Extracurriculars
The routines at LCS and extracurriculars keep my children so engaged and busy! My daughter's participation in Tennis and Ski Racing, along with other clubs, is very beneficial to her growth. My son is really enjoying the gym and learning new workout routines.
(5) Students
LCS is the perfect size with small classes and tonnes of school spirit. We never wanted a mega school for our children's learning environment, and we appreciate the school community at LCS.
(5) School Life
Our children love LCS. So much so that our son decided to take a summer class to get ahead. The close community and loving environment from the staff is beyond our expectations. Our younger two sons are so excited to attend LCS for grade 9 that they opted to do a boarding summer camp this summer!
(5) Community
LCS does a great job of including families in activities throughout the school year. We enjoy attending the Fall Fair at Northcote. We wish we could attend more events, but our schedules don't always allow it.
(5) School Location
LCS being in a small town and on a lake is PERFECT! The students enjoy heading into town for local restaurants and grocery/personal needs. They also take the school bus to Peterborough every once in a while! The students can enjoy water sports and the Northern lights. Our drives to visit and pick up the children are never a bother.
(4.5) Admissions
When you want your child to attend LCS, the stress of waiting to see if they get accepted is there! With that said, the detailed admission process is much appreciated. to make sure the school is the right fit. The school tour and interview have been a welcome trip for our children, and our younger two are excited for their time to tour!
