The university advisory program that Lakefield runs is by far the best I've seen. And just the fact that these kids are coming, they're going into Grade 12, they're having to do all their applications for universities, and that's not an easy thing to do, and they seem to do it with ease, and the guidance that they're given is just something that is you can't get anywhere else.
I've been taking the values that Lakefield has taught me into my life now into university. I actually live with one of my former classmates at the moment. We're in the same student housing at Queens and we both take pride in having been able to go to Lakefield and have the opportunity to learn what they taught us and bring it into the Queen's community.
The university counselling program was excellent and integrated into the civics and careers course. The guidance staff is awesome and helpful. Giving advice, listening, helping with the university process. My son got into his first choice university and program. The school takes the students on tours of many of the larger Ontario schools throughout the fall for them to help make their decisions. The staff assist the students in choosing the university that best suits their interest and needs for their plans. They have planned times each week to meet to ensure the students don’t get behind in their application process. The staff is not only knowledgeable about the Canadian school’s but also the American, Australian and European schools, giving students a wide variety of choices. The school is supportive through the process right up to when acceptances arrive.
LCS academic program is the number one reason we chose the school for our son. Depending on the strengths of each student they have a program to fit. Sciences, Arts, business all aspects are available to the students. Bringing diversity to the student body, allowing students to be surrounded by others that are different from themselves with different goals but all one community. Our son took his academics to a completely different level. Our goal was for our son to go directly from grade 12 to university (instead of CEGEP for 2 years in Quebec). Due to LCS's university advisor class and the academic program our son applied with confidence to 6 universities and was accepted to 5 of those universities! He had the support of the LCS advisor staff through the entire university application process. He confidently started university without any hesitations or uncertainties.

University applications are stressful. LCS took the stress off of our plate. Our son was given all the tools and guidance required to navigate his way through the process. LCS first helped him decide where he wanted to apply and to which programs. He chose a diverse group of universities and not all the exact same program, depending on the school. All in the same field but not all the same programs. LCS did a great job of supporting our son and ensuring he was on top of all the applications. Timing is key and could have easily been missed if he was preparing it all on his own. Our son applied to 6 universities and was accepted to 5 of those universities. He had the choice to choose where he wanted to go.

Lakefield prides itself on having 100% University acceptance rates through its graduating class. The guidance class (which is usually a grade 10 credit course coinciding with civics) is actually taken for half the year in grade 12. This allows students in small groups to work closely with the guidance counsellors from starting the university research process, to making an acceptance, they are there to help you. These classes are planned accordingly to meet before many of the applications will be due to allow for a stress-free process and assurance that deadlines will be met by having the regular check-ins with the counsellor. The counsellors had many years of experience with school engagement therefore they know the student well enough before they even get to grade 12, and have had experience with applications for schools all over the world because of the diversity within the student body. No dream is too big for them.
We feel that the academic program at LCS is flexible and focuses on the exploration of the potential ability of the student, for example, AP program could let some students prepare the institute lesson earlier. In the past several school years the student experienced flexible lesson modules and remote learning, which helped them to learn more according to the different conditions of each student in the pandemic period. The school provides quick and efficient action to deal with the difficulty which is based on the long-term tradition at LCS. The school cultivates a flexible and personalized academic culture and atmosphere. We feel the academic program at LCS, especially the AP program, can help students to apply to their favourite institute and it truly supports them.
The application process is intensive but very well organized. The school helps you through it and is very flexible, understanding the time zone's difficulties. The “values” of the school are sent to the prospective student, so he can prepare for the interview. You need to gather some documents and report cards, but it is still manageable and definitely good training for university application. The admission officer responsible for us was from the beginning very open and honest with us. She also asked why we choose LCS and wanted to be sure that we knew and understood the value and spirit of the school we were trying to send our son into. Once you are accepted, the school continues to help you with visa (it even propose you the service of a layer who does everything for you), health care and traveling logistics. Without any doubt, it is a very intensive time. But I think that the biggest stress is to realize that your child is actually maybe leaving home.

Our daughter was accepted into all the university programs she applied to during her final year at LCS. Due to that, she was able to choose her first choice program. The guidance activity was solid and timely and gave her the information and backing required to conduct her post-high school investigations thoroughly until she streamlined her thinking. The process was much more involved and better managed than my wife, and I have experienced previously, and we were thoroughly impressed. The support came from the guidance counsellors, and the don's in the boarding houses could also share their university experiences. The don in my daughter's house and my daughter's academic advisor had both graduated from my daughter's university of choice and were able to offer much practical advice.

It is a very well-rounded school in the courses they offer. They are taught at a high level and the students are ready to meet the expectations of first year university. ... The school offers AP classes for most topics and have a wide variety of courses for the students to select. So even though the student body is 300 approx they are still able to give many selections for their studies. My son was accepted to his first choice program at his first choice school. The academics allowed him to learn and grow in a way that also assisted in his next step of learning. It is an interesting school in that they have excellent, science and math teachers as well as a great arts program, and they don't forget the humanities either.
LCS provides both diversity and depth across multiple fields. The academic tracks are well designed and provide clear paths for university. We have loved the "outdoors every day" philosophy that is carried out without any negative effect on the academic level. We are also big supporters of the module approach that has been implemented in the last couple of years. Our kids have enjoyed the longer class sessions and the changes of focus during the year. We also like the way the school recognizes strong academic performance without making specific student successes overwhelming for the rest of the community. The workload seems to be intense but not overwhelming, and there is always support easily accessible if needed. LCS makes an effort to continuously innovate which is highly appreciated.

LCS most definitely prepares students for university. They develop strong study habits and they learn to ask for help when they need it. The teachers are always ready to help. The school seems to be quite strong in most subjects; however, our daughter has struggled with French this year. We are not sure exactly why and tried to find a way for her to improve. Her class seems to have all levels of French ability which seems to make it very difficult for the teacher. I wonder if there is a need for three different levels of French classes at the 10th-grade level. Our daughter has enjoyed the fine art class as it is one of her favorite classes, but we are hopeful that there will be more opportunities in 11th grade for students who want to pursue a career in the arts. There seemed to be a great deal of writing as part of the art class, though I'm not sure that there was much art history being taught.

It was excellent preparation for my daughter's further studies at university. In a few words, it is hard to express how the unique rural setting on a lake combined with a top-notch teaching and support staff fuse to create a truly unique and unequalled learning environment. One must experience it.
