There are multiple accrediting bodies for Montessori programs across Canada, the U.S., and beyond. In Canada, Montessori Canada is the leading accrediting organization.
What is Montessori Canada?
As of 2025, Montessori Canada is the new name for what had been The Canadian Council of Montessori Administrators (CCMA). It is a national non‑profit organization that promotes high standards in Montessori education through school accreditation, provides support services, and acts as a unified voice for Montessori schools in Canada.
Montessori Canada is the only recognized certifying entity for early learning centre accreditation in Canada, and it is the principal accrediting body for Montessori schools across the country. Canada now has more than 100 Montessori schools that are either accredited or in the applicant process under Montessori Canada’s framework.
On Montessori Canada’s website, you can find the criteria for becoming a member school as well as a school locator for Montessori Canada–accredited institutions.
What is the history and vision of Montessori Canada?
Origin and growth
Montessori Canada began as CCMA in 1977, founded by a group of Montessori administrators committed to mutual support and raising public awareness about authentic Montessori education. Over the decades, the organization has grown to include more than 100 member and applicant schools, ranging in size from under 50 students to over 700. Montessori Canada schools typically include toddler, early childhood, elementary, and even adolescent programs.
Vision and educational philosophy
Montessori Canada schools aim to deliver personalized, student-centred education—honouring each child’s uniqueness while inspiring them to contribute positively to the world.
