On June 14th, Bond invited coaches, athlete students, parents and staff to attend its first Athletic Award Ceremony at Parkview Manor Banquet Hall.
“We use sports and physical education to build character and strength in our students, to make them better as individuals, and to have fun.” said John Healey, Principal of Bond Elementary School. "Winning is our goal. It’s a reward. The skills and work habits our students develop through competing in sports, and the confidence, perseverance, inner strength and self esteem built through winning and losing are the goals we strive for.”
“I am proud that Bond continues to amplify the connection between physical fitness and improved brain function through its philosophy of a healthy body – a healthy mind.” commented Jeffrey Farber, Principal of Bond Secondary School. “Active children have improved study skills and ability, as well as being more attentive and more inclined to enjoy their school work.”
Herbie Kuhn, the Voice of the Raptors, was invited as the Guest Speaker to join the Bond 2016 Athletic Award Ceremony. He shared his own experiences of participating in sports, and introduced five important things that students can learn through sports and will help them in the future. It includes Teamwork, Sportsmanship, Time Management, Self Care and Perseverance.
The most exciting part of the morning was the Awards! First of all, Judy Johnstone and Linda Rockett announced all the Swimming Awards for Bond's excellent swimmers from Grades 1 to 8.
Royal Carney, Athletic Director at Bond presented the Awards to both Elementary and Secondary athletes for their significant progress and exceptional ability in sports, including Athlete of the Future, Most Improved Athlete, Male Athlete of the Year, Female Athlete of the Year, and ‘The Muhammad Ali Award’.
Congratulations to our outstanding athletes! A sincere thank you goes to all Bond coaches, the Parent Council, student athletes and their parents for their dedication, great effort and support!
