On Friday May 4, Newton's Grove School hosted the SSAF Track and Field Tournament for under-20 and under-16 year-old athletes at York University's Indoor Track and Field Centre. 8 schools, including our own Bond Academy participated in the tournament. The day was filled with a sense of community, fun, and solid competition. While most schools brought teams consisting of 10 or more students, Bond Academy's team consisted of only one: David McPhaden. In spite of the small roster, David brought back to Bond pride and gold medals! As per tournament rules, David was limited to participating in only 4 events of his choosing: the U16 100 meter dash, 200 meter dash, long jump, and triple jump. David managed to decisively win gold in all events; bringing 4 gold medals back to Bond!
As his Coach and Phys-ed teacher, I was really not surprised at the outcome. "I only felt nervous at the start of my first event." replied David, as I asked how he felt heading into the competition. At the end of it all the golden athlete summed up the day in three words: "fun, awesome, and amazing!" David is a highly fierce competitor, and has an insatiable appetite for various sports and physical activity both at and outside of Bond. All of these factors, combined with a healthy work ethic, are why David was so successful and has done Bond Academy proud. Bond Academy congratulates David on his phenomenal performance and achievement!
