On June 14th, Bond held its third Annual Athletic Awards Banquet at the Parkview Manor Banquet Hall. All Bond coaches, athletes, parents and staff were invited to attend.
Rita Simmons, the Chair of Bond Academy Community Council, highlighted the memorable sports moments of this academic year and thanked all our coaches for their efforts.
Herbie Kuhn, who has been the Voice of the Raptors since 1995, introduced the two guest speakers, Olympian Khamica Bingham and Track and Field champion Sam Effah. The two speakers shared their stories and encouraged Bond's Athletes to set a plan when they have a goal and work towards their plan instead of just having a wish and hoping something will happen.
Khamica Bingham made her Olympic debut at Rio 2016 where she anchored the 4x100m relay team to a seventh-place finish, in what was Canada’s first Olympic final in the event since Los Angeles 1984. Sam is a Two-Time Canadian Champion in the sport of Track and Field (100m). Sam holds the title of "The Fastest Man in Canadian University History" after winning 4 consecutive 'Most Valuable Player' awards during his university career.
The most anticipated moment was the Awards Ceremony where Athletic and Sports teams, Awards were presented to our outstanding athletics of the academic year 2017-2018.
Mrs Johnstone and Ms Rockett with the aquatics program announced all the Swimming Awards for Bond’s excellent swimmers from Grades 1 to 8. Mr Carney and Mr Peters, Bond's athletic teachers presented the awards to Elementary and Secondary athletes for their great progress and outstanding ability in athleticism and sports.
Congratulations to all our incredible athletics at Bond! We are so proud of each one of you! A sincere thank you goes to all Bond coaches, BACC, the athletes and their parents for their dedication, extraordinary effort and support throughout another academic year!
