On the morning of June 14th, Bond held its annual Athletic Awards Ceremony at the Parkview Manor Banquet Hall. All Bond coaches, athletes from Grades 1 to 12, parents and staff were invited to attend this wonderful event. During the ceremony, the Athletic and Sports Team Awards were presented to our outstanding athletics of the academic year 2016-2017.
As the Chair of Bond Academy Community Council, Rita Simmons highlighted the sports moments of this academic year, such as the excitement of our Grade 1s involved for the first time in the athletic opportunities, the determination and teamwork of our U14 Boys Basketball team which claimed first place, as well as the commitment and enthusiasm of all our coaches to cheer for the teams.
Herbie Kuhn, who has been the Voice of the Raptors since 1995, was invited as the Guest Speaker to join the Bond 2017 Athletic Award Ceremony. He shared his own experiences of starting his Public Address Announcer career, and encouraged everyone to never give up in life. “We will all be challenged to quit the race at some point, emotionally, physically, psychologically and relationally; and there will be a time that we are going to say ‘Done’, but I’m here to remind you that I wouldn’t be where I am today if I gave up years ago.”
Mr. Kuhn also sent out his best wishes for everyone at Bond: “I wish for you that you will have persistent and confidence, and will never give up; that you will achieve every single goal and purpose that you set your heart and your mind on.”
The most exciting moment – the Awards! Mrs. Johnstone and Ms. Rockett announced all the Swimming Awards for Bond’s excellent swimmers from Grades 1 to 8. Mr. Carney and Mr. Peters, the athletic teachers at Bond presented the awards to Elementary and Secondary athletes for their great progress and outstanding ability in sports, including Male Athlete of the Year, Female Athlete of the Year, Most Improved Athlete, Athlete of the Future and ‘The Muhammad Ali Award’.
Congratulations to all our incredible athletics at Bond! We are so proud of each one of you! A sincere thank you goes to all Bond coaches, BACC, the student athletes and their parents for their dedication, extraordinary effort and support throughout another academic year!
