As school was coming to close for the Christmas holidays, one of the most important events changed our school into a “smack-talk” zone with the high school students pitted against the teachers in an epic battle. A simple, student versus teacher, charity basketball for the Christmas Cheer Project turned into a vicious battle of shattered dreams and lifelong memories.
On Friday December 12, 2014 at 3 p.m., there was a high school vs teacher basketball game held in the gym with the ultimate goal of sending a Canadian family of four faced with unfortunate circumstances to see their first NBA Raptors basketball game. Over 100 tickets for this friendly game were sold. The Grade 12 Business Leadership class ensured that the whole school knew about this game. Everything was going as planned until the game started.
Immediately after the game started, the atmosphere surrounding the game had changed. The trash-talking teachers had egged on the students into a game that would once-and-for-all prove who the domineering force within the school was. This breath-taking battle was fought point-by-point, play-by-play. Everything was being left on the court and the roaring crowd could not get enough.
The game ended all too soon with the students coming out triumphant with a score of 46 to 24. The students can hold their heads high knowing that they both: defeated the teachers in an outstanding game and raised enough money for the NBA basketball game.
