When the school year ends, the learning opportunities for children continue, thanks to the summer camps offered by Kendellhurst Academy http://www.kendellhurst.com/ in Mississauga.
The summer camps http://www.kendellhurst.com/gradeschool/SummerCamps.shtml will appeal to students with a wide variety of interests, and some combine hands-on learning with physical activity for a more rounded experience. For example, the Mathematicians, Team Sportsters and Techies camp blends learning mathematics and technology through a tablet with team sports so that the child gets a body and mind workout. Another camp called Crazy Science Adventures and Ecosystems Camp lets children explore nature and enjoy picnics, while the instructor leads some exciting (but safe) experiments to add to the experience.
Another great option that combines mental and physical stimulation is the Summer Academy and Swimming camp, which gets kids moving while improving swimming skills and incorporates language arts and mathematics.
For the child who loves the arts, there's the Great Artists and Art camp, which teaches children about past masters and inspires them to create their own works of art. If music and performance is more your child's speed, then Stage Mania! is perfect for blending choreography and costumes for fun and fitness.
Then there are the culinary-focused camps for the budding chefs — Cucina Italiana invites children to make a pizza and other traditional Italian dishes from scratch, while even learning some Italian phrases that could be used in restaurants in Italian-speaking regions. La Cuisine Française lets kids create menus as well as popular dishes from around the world.
For future leaders, Camp Kendellhurst also has Junior Leadership Camps to foster collaboration and decision-making skills, as well as to improve confidence. The camps involve team-building exercises and even mock conferences to help children push their boundaries and realize their full potential.
The summer camps are offered throughout July and August, and the camp leaders are members of the private school's faculty.
