The York School's Mandarin Programme is producing some of Canada's most talented high school Mandarin speakers!
Alexandra Pillsbury, a Grade 10 student, won first place at the Chinese Proficiency Competition for Toronto High School students on April 8, 2018. Participants performed a three-minute speech and then performed in Mandarin with poetry, a Chinese story, a dance or another Chinese art form.
Alex will go to China this fall to represent Canada as a Mandarin speaker at the final world competition!
Beside Mandarin, The York School also offers lessons in Spanish and French as well as a number of other languages. The International Baccalaureate programme requires students to gain proficiency in a second language so that they can take on the world. Indeed, of The York School's globally minded teachers, over fifty per cent of the school's faculty have taught overseas.
We are very proud of our globally-minded students who #takeontheworld!
