Ontario Virtual School (OVS) is proud to offer this custom-designed course aimed at easing the transition between elementary and secondary level math. OVS1O presents a fantastic opportunity for Grade 8 students to familiarize themselves with the foundational concepts needed to successfully make the transition into high school mathematics, including arithmetic, graphing, ratios, powers, percents and geometry. Once enrolled, each student is automatically assigned to an OCT certified teacher who will be there to support them as they work through each of the four units of this course at the pace that is most comfortable and convenient for their learning.
With the introduction of this completely free course, Ontario Virtual School hopes to address the existing math gap between elementary and secondary level math, as seen through declining EQAO results for Grade 9 students across Ontario in recent years. We are also seeking to support students as we move towards the government’s impending eLearning initiative by allowing elementary students to develop their ability to learn in an online learning environment.
