Students join Mayor Crombie to plant ceremonial Half Millionth Tree

Students from Kendellhurst Academy joined Mississauga Mayor Bonnie Crombie, with local councillors, MP’s, MPP’s and the President of the Credit River Anglers Association to plant a ceremonial half millionth tree along the Credit River in Streetsville.  Students have planted hundreds of trees along the Credit River as part the half million tree campaign by CRAA.  The tree planting is an excellent hands on part of the science/environment program at Kendellhurst.  The Credit River is adjacent to the campus and thus provides an excellent location for outdoor science classes.  Students also raise Atlantic salmon in the school and release the baby salmon into the river.  This provides an excellent link for students to better understand habitats, ecology and wildlife.  Students were taught the many native tree species that are present along the river and why each specie is important to the fish and wildlife.  Children got their hands dirty helping to dig holes and put the trees in the ground as they do every spring and fall.
